Emmerdale star Lisa Riley, who plays Mandy Dingle on the ITV soap, has taken to Instagram after comedian Peter Kay reportedly made a joke at her expense at a gig
Lisa Riley has posted on social media for the first time after Peter Kay reportedly made a joke about the actress.
The 51-year-old comedian has returned to the stage after years away from the spotlight. His tour dates last year reportedly raked in a whopping £27m in gross revenue.
However, Peter has been slammed during his Better Late Than Never Again! tour – which continues this year and into 2026. He has been criticised for a “chaotic” gig at Manchester’s AO Arena on Saturday night (February 8) which saw two members of the audience chucked out.
He reportedly directed a joke at Riley when a female audience member was told to leave the gig after heckling him. The woman was allegedly asked to leave when she shouted out: “We love you Peter Kay”.
The comedian then reportedly compared her to the Emmerdale actress when he shouted back at her from stage: “Go on, off you go Lisa Riley.” The actress, who lost a whopping 12 stone in recent years and has been public about her weight loss, has now posted on social media following the alleged incident.
Lisa took to Instagram with a cryptic post about being “grateful” and ‘seeing the good in life’. The message read: “We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorns have roses.” Captioning the quote, Lisa wrote: “See the good in life….before you ALWAYS jump to the negative….its such a simpler way to live for sure #grateful #gratitude #nomoaning #think.”
One audience member who left the show early claimed Kay was “nasty and bitter” and that “his performance was poor”. He reportedly grew frustrated during the gig when two disruptive audience members continued heckling him.
A man in the audience was told to leave as he kept shouting Kay’s iconic “garlic bread” catchphrase during the gig. A female audience member was also removed from the show after shouting “we love you”.
Others reportedly left early as they were disappointed by the show which was dubbed “chaotic” – despite waiting years to see Kay on stage. One audience member told Mail Online: “The whole thing just feels very nasty and bitter.
“His performance was poor but the way he dealt with one heckler and someone shouting “we love you” was ridiculous. My friend and I left the show after that, half an hour early. Others left the show early too.”
Another audience member claimed: “I’ve lost a lot of respect for Peter Kay after the way he treated the heckler at the end of his Manchester Feb 8 show. Having him removed by force by his entourage and cracking jokes about it over the three or four minutes it took. No manners. Huge waste of money.”
They continued: “He did a blind person impression which was really offensive, made a lot of jokes about how he hasn’t had an erection for years after “sertraline 40mg” and made other very rude jokes which isn’t what you’d expect.
“He also said Paddy McGuinness will do anything for a bit of money, called him deaf and then pulled apart his show about factories. I understand humour is subjective so it may just be a few people who didn’t appreciate the jokes last night.”
