Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford has given a concerning update about her mother following a series of health scares. Ruth’s mum was pictured in hospital after falling ill a few days ago, as revealed in a post on Ruth’s Instagram Stories today.

Ruth, 65, shares her home with her 94 year old mother Joan and takes care of her when she’s not at work. The pair live together with their dog Maggie, following the upheaval in Ruth’s life caused by her split from GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes last year.

Today on social media, Ruth initially shared a distressing photo while accompanying Joan to receive professional medical assistance. Ruth seemed to be seated next to Joan’s bed, capturing an image of her mother’s legs under a blanket in the dimly lit room.

“Another hospital visit for Mum last night… chest infection got the better of her. They sent her home after a few hours of care though…..thank you to all the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital, Surrey for looking after us so well,” the former This Morning star captioned the photo.

An hour later, she returned to the app to announce that Joan was back home. Ruth posted a brief clip of her mum sitting beside her on the sofa, petting Maggie as the dog kept a protective paw on her leg, reports the Mirror.

“She’s home and a bit brighter today… nurse Maggie is on watch again!” Ruth expressed joyfully.

The final Story echoed one shared just a few days prior, when Ruth first disclosed that Joan had contracted a chest infection and was too sick to celebrate Mother’s Day.

On the special occasion, Ruth posted a video of Joan having a boogie in the kitchen, but confessed it was an old clip as her mum was currently under the weather and not up for a song and dance.

“HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all you fabulous mums out there but especially to my incredible mum Joan. I’m sharing a throwback video because sadly Mum’s not feeling great… she’s battling a nasty chest infection so she’s not up for celebrating today,” she penned to her followers.

“Maggie and I are keeping her company and showering her with TLC. I’m certain she’ll be back on veg peeling duty, dancing and sipping sherry in my kitchen before we know it. Hope you’re all enjoying a lovely day with your mum if you’re lucky, like me, to still have her.”

Even before sitting out Mother’s Day, Joan also had to skip Christmas Day last year after a tumble landed her in hospital with a broken pelvis.

After a lengthy hospital stint, Ruth managed to return home in January, but alongside these temporary health setbacks, she’s also grappling with Alzheimer’s. While Joan is living with the condition, Ruth tragically lost her dad, Dennis, to dementia in 2012.
