Lorraine Kelly has been forced to set the record straight after she ‘scolded’ Vernon Kay for his fake Scottish accent on the BBC Radio 2 star’s show last week

Lorraine Kelly was quick to set the record straight on Tuesday after she ‘scolded’ Vernon Kay for his ‘incredibly offensive’ fake Scottish accent.

The message had Lorraine saying: “Vernon, what are you doing? On behalf of Vernon Kay I would like to apologise to all of my fellow Scots for that incredibly offensive stereotype.”

She continued: “The Scottish accent is a beautiful thing that comes in many different varieties and not everybody sounds like Billy Connolly, but that’s okay because we love him.”

Wrapping up her playful scold, Lorraine added: “So, to the people of Scotland, Radio 2 would like to once again for Vernon Kay and please rest assured he is being sent on a 16 week accent awareness course.”

Displaying great sportsmanship, Vernon responded playfully to the critique, joking: “Oh, I’ve been told, thank you Lorraine”, reports Bristol Live.

However, during her own programme on Tuesday, the Scottish presenter wanted to make it clear that the ‘scolding’ was all in jest. She remarked: “I was just asked to do that as a joke, as a joke for Vernon Kay and it was very funny.”

She admitted: “But I think a lot of people thought I was being serious, I wasn’t, but his attempt at a Scottish accent was appalling though to be fair, it was really bad!”

It comes as Lorraine, the popular TV host, recently addressed the mystery surrounding her hidden injury. She revealed to viewers that she had a black eye, which had sparked concern among her audience.

While on Loose Women, Lorraine discussed her “shiner”, explaining it was the result of a clumsy accident at home while doing laundry. Linda Robson, one of the panellists, pointed out: “You’ve got a bit of a shiner haven’t you” to which Lorraine confirmed: “I have! I will explain, yesterday, you know as women we try to do too many things at one time and we try to do it really fast?”

She continued: “I had a massive bag of washing, a huge big washing basket, I couldn’t see and was going from the kitchen to the living room, where there’s a wee step, and my slippers are too big, I fell over and then I fell onto a rhino – as you do! I hit my face on it!

“I thought I’d be fine and I woke up this morning with the biggest shiner, this big black eye, I thought I won’t say anything, I won’t say anything and Helen, our fantastic make-up artist, has actually done a brilliant job! Hasn’t she done a great job?”

When asked if it was painful, Lorraine admitted: “It’s okay… it’s a wee tiny bit but I just feel a bit silly! Also, can I just say, somebody called in and said: ‘Have I had fillers’… no!”

“A lot of people were very kindly, a lot of folks were saying: ‘Are you okay?’, ‘have you got an allergies?’ Our viewers are so lovely! They were like: ‘You should try this!'” she said, appreciating the concern shown by her viewers.

Finally putting an end to the speculation, Lorraine declared: “It’s not an allergy, it’s not fillers!”
