Love Island legend Cara De La Hoyde has lifted the lid on how much little budget the show splashed out on the contestants back in the early series of the show.

Cara, 34, starred on the second series of the show and is still with her match Nathan Massey, 32, who is the father of her two children, Freddie, seven, and Delilah, four. And they were not given all of the luxuries that the contestants are nowadays, such as an abundance of free clothes and on-site beauty treatments.

Speaking on to Daily Star in collaboration with Genting Casino, Cara shared how her experience went down and said: “I just went on Boohoo and got the £10 dresses they used to do – they had loads of them. “I remember I cut my extensions when I was in there because they were hanging out of my head. I cut all my extensions the same length as my hair.”

She also confessed that her partner Nathan was forced to borrow money of his dad before heading into the villa just so he could afford to buy his holiday wardrobe.

Cara added: “Nathan borrowed money off his dad to go and buy a load of clothes. So yeah, I think it’s changed a lot.”

The couple first met on the ITV show back in 2016 and are one of the show’s success stories. When asked what the secret is to keep the telly relationship going strong, Cara said it helps not to take anything too “seriously”.

Cara explained: “I think going on early when there’s not as much pressure helped us. When you come out as a couple, there is so much pressure and I cannot imagine what these guys face when they come out now.

“I do think me and Nathan, we just take the mick out of each other all the time. We are not serious people at all, and I think because we’ve got such a good sense of humour and we could just sit there and rip each other apart, we just find it so funny.

“I do think just having a good sense of humour and not taking it seriously has really helped us with every aspect of our life.”

When sharing her thoughts on the current series of the show, she also added that she is “loving the drama”.

Cara said: “We all like drama and we love when mad stuff goes down. I think if we carry on the way we’re going, I do think it’s gonna be a very, very strong season, I really do.

“I think we’re starting off strong. I really hope we don’t dip and we just carry on like this the whole way through.”
