Major EastEnders star to ‘quit’ BBC soap as ‘timing of decision worked for both’

Bobby Brazier, who wowed audiences both in and out of Walford confirmed he is leaving the soap after four years, with the 22-year-old confirming he is being swamped with job offers

One of EastEnders’ most beloved characters has confirmed they are leaving Walford.

Bobby Brazier has teased that he would be stepping away from the Square, in order to focus on other projects. However, he has also been seen steaming things up amid claims he was getting up, close and personal with a MAFS legend recently.

But while the Strictly Come Dancing star continues his boom in success, Bobby has decided to say farewell to Walford and leave the BBC show. It comes as he admitted that he has been offered a host of new work opportunities after storming the Strictly dancefloor back in 2023.

Playing his role as troubled lad Freddie Slater, Bobby will leave Albert Square in a storyline to be revealed later this year. Speaking to The Sun, a spokesperson for the soap said: “We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Sources close to the show revealed that the decision to leave the soap was mutual so that Bobby could go and flex his acting muscles in other projects. “Bosses had a meeting with Bobby only recently as they had a plan in mind for a storyline, and it just so happened that Bobby was also thinking that now was the right time to look for other opportunities outside the show,” an insider said.

They added: “The timing of the decision worked for both, but his final scenes are not for a while yet. The character has had a great run, but the time is now right for Bobby to look for other opportunities, and for EastEnders to wave goodbye to Freddie Slater.”

Freddie’s departure from the Square comes amid a tense time for the residents of Walford, and the actors that paly them. New EastEnders boss has confirmed that new casting choices are being made, as fans have already seen the return of Max Branning, Ben Mitchell and Zoe Slater.

Meanwhile, some staples of the show have already bowed out of Walford, including Sonia Fowler, played by Natalie Cassidy, as well as Stacey Slater, played by Lacey Turner. How Freddie will leave the soap will be revealed later this year.

Actor Bobby has been on a roll since he first burst onto our screens as cheeky chap Freddie back in 2022. His success was recognised further, when he scooped a National Television Award last year in the category of Rising Star.

The son of Big Brother legend Jade Goody and London lad Jeff Brazier, Bobby’s acting chops have been busted on the BBC soap, leading to other opportunities already coming about. Bobby was also seen starring in the Paramount+ drama Curfew, before he opted to take to the dancefloor for Strictly Come Dancing.

The show proved to be a major turning point in his career, as he impressed the judges – and the public with his fancy footwork. He eventually made it the final, but eventually lost out on the glitterball trophy to Corrie star Ellie Leach.
