Singer Michael Bolton has broken his silence after it was revealed that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer and was forced to undergo emergency surgery
Michael Bolton has addressed his cancer diagnosis.
The singer bravely revealed that he’s not giving into the aggressive brain cancer. He underwent emergency surgery in January 2024, sharing the daunting news with his fans just a few weeks later.
At first, the music icon kept quiet about whether the tumour was malignant or why he even needed the operation, but did explain to worried fans that he’d be taking some time off to get back on his feet.
Michael started feeling dizzy and queasy back in 2023 and ever since his diagnosis, Bolton has been battling forgetfulness, speech problems, and getting around.
After going through two surgeries plus doses of chemo and radioactivity therapy, it seems the star’s latest scans this month have come back looking positive. Bolton recently declared to People: “Succumbing to the challenge is not an option. You’re really quickly drawn into a duel. I guess that’s the way you find out what you’re made of,” reports the Mirror.
“Whenever you find yourself in any kind of challenging position, just to know that you’re not alone going through it is a big deal.”
Michael also confessed that the health scare has instilled a deeper gratitude for life. His daughter Holly disclosed that after his surgery, Michael was belting out tunes “within minutes”.
Despite being a global star, Holly, aged 47, shared how one nurse was clueless about her famous patient yet was astounded by Bolton’s vocal prowess.
Michael has also expressed a desire to “keep going,” stating: “I feel there’s still a lot to do on the fight side.”
He took to social media in January last year to reveal: “Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumour, which required immediate surgery.”
“Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success.”
Earlier this year Michael had to pull out of a gig, which had already been rescheduled, as he focused on his recovery.
Updating his followers on Instagram, the When a Man Loves a Woman crooner announced: “Today we are announcing the cancellation of my July 5th concert at the O2 Arena in London.”
