Neighbours star Gerard Kennedy dies aged 93 as tributes flood in for soap actor

Iconic Aussie actor Gerard Kennedy has died.

The soap star passed away at 93 and a close family friend shared a heartfelt tribute on social media confirming his death.

In their emotional message, the friend stated: “Vale Gerard Kennedy. 1932 – 2025. An iconic Australian actor of many decades. Well-remembered by Prisoner fans for his portrayal as terrorist Al in The Wentworth Siege episodes.”

Gerard’s remarkable career spanned over five decades, notable for his performances in shows like Underbelly and Division 4. He also starred in popular series such as A Country Practice, Blue Heelers, and Neighbours.

The talented star was also honoured with two Gold Logie awards, receiving them back to back in 1971 and 1972.

Gerard terrified also audiences in the 2013 horror flick Wolf Creek 2 and portrayed Vince Colosimo in Fat Tony and Co., reports the Mirror.

As news of his passing spread, fans flocked online to post their tributes. On Twitter/X, one user said: “R.I.P. Gerard Kennedy (1932-2025). Thanks for the memories. My deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences to his family and friends.”

Another fan reminisced: “Sorry to hear of the passing of Gerard Kennedy, can still hear that dramatic theme of Division 4 and picture Frank Banner looking at his watch. Gee they were great shows back then. #valegerardkennedy”.

Fans said that “Australia is in mourning”

Someone else wrote that Australia is “mourning the loss of one of the country’s greatest television icons,” while another branded him “one of their favourite actors”.

Entertainment agent Matt Bennett took to X/Twitter to address Gerard’s death and shared a heartwarming message.

He branded the actor “dedicated to his craft and an inspiration” as “so many actors followed in his footsteps”.

The agent continued: “His career was a masterclass in versatility, moving effortlessly between gritty drama and warm, heartfelt performances.”

“His legacy defines an era of Australian storytelling and remains a benchmark for integrity and excellence in the performing arts.”
