As Oasis took to the stage in Heaton Park, an 80,000-strong crowd inside the venue went wild, while scores of ticketless fans found a prime spot just outside the compound.

Hundreds congregated on the nearby “Gallagher Hill”, where they could see the massive gig screens and hear the music. Images captured large crowds on the adjacent field participating in a mass sing-along. Picnics were had, drinks were downed, and during a touching moment when Noel performed Half the World Away, the hillside crowd swayed arm in arm, capturing the moment on their phones.

While most enjoyed the night in high spirits, some attempted to breach the concert area. Footage showed the moment numerous ticketless fans charged at the metal fences as the band began their performance, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The video depicts a rush of people clambering over a toppled panel and vanishing behind a line of trees. Another clip showed fans encountering a second row of much taller, wooden fencing.

It was later confirmed that no one managed to gain entry. It’s believed that the towering fences and robust security presence deterred those attempting to sneak their way in.

However, this morning saw the erection of a large green fence on Heaton Park’s hill where fans had been gathering, thwarting any plans for ticketless fans hoping to catch the next three Oasis shows.

Oasis is slated to perform tomorrow night (July 16), as well as gigs on Saturday and Sunday (July 19 and 20). The viewpoint, now dubbed ‘Gallagher Hill’ on Google Maps, has gained viral attention after images and videos of it were shared online.

Pictures reveal a significant portion of the area has been cordoned off with a new barrier erected, entirely obstructing the view. A notice also cautions about livestock in the fields. The Manchester Evening News has reached out to Manchester City Council for comments regarding the barriers and fences now installed at Gallagher Hill.

Meanwhile, band enthusiasts had some choice words for those responsible for erecting the screens and blocking the view. One lamented: “Oh no, that’s my plans scuppered this weekend.”

Another quipped “Noel’s definitely ordered this”, while a third pleaded with Liam Gallagher to intervene. “Pls why has Gallagher hill been closed off. I’ve literally just paid THREE HUNDRED pound for a hotel. @liamgallagher SORT THEM OUT LAD I BEG.”

“Hahaha a fence like this won’t stop people from going on the hill,” another fan jested. “B*******. Its not as if the concerts are losing money. All the shows sold out, fumed someone else on X,” vented another irate Oasis follower.

Ahead of last weekend’s shows, Oasis fans without tickets were advised not to travel to the park in an attempt to listen from outside. Manchester Council issued a statement on Friday (July 11) detailing the extensive security measures in place at Heaton Park.

The statement read: “Music fans who don’t have tickets shouldn’t travel to Heaton Park – they should come instead to the city centre and enjoy what’s on offer there”.

“There are no facilities for them at the park and they will not be able to see the concert or get into the event arena – which is double-walled with solid high security fencing all the way round and in excess of 2,000 event security staff and police officers on duty around the site to ensure both the safety and wellbeing of ticket holders and that only those who have tickets access the concert.”

A dispersal order was also enforced around Heaton Park and the surrounding areas over the weekend. This order granted constables and police community support officers the authority to disperse crowds and prevent nuisance.

After the two concerts, a senior police officer commended the behaviour of the 160,000 attendees at the first two Oasis homecoming gigs at Heaton Park. The security operation during the first weekend of concerts resulted in 15 arrests.

Six individuals were arrested during the first gig on Friday night, primarily for being drunk and disorderly. However, police also intervened when drone pilots attempted to launch their aircraft in ‘restricted air space’.

Five drones were confiscated.

The majority were detained on suspicion of fraud after trying to get into the gig with counterfeit accreditation. Security personnel had a tough time stopping hordes of ticketless fans from storming the gates or scaling the perimeter fencing to catch the gigs.

How to get Oasis tickets

Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs.

Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused.
