A big cat is feared to be on the prowl near Ed Sheeran’s country estate.

The Perfect hitmaker lives at the remote property with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their two daughters. But a black panther-like feline was spotted in the countryside less than five miles away.

A resident spotted it and took the snaps on their mobile phone. It was spotted in the town of Eye, north of Ipswich, Suffolk. Matt Salusbury, who runs the Big Cats of Suffolk website said: “The witness told me they’d seen a large black animal walking up and down along the tree line at the end of a field behind their garden.

“The distance from where they were to the animal when they photographed it was a good few minutes walk.

“They observed it for more than five minutes before it sat down with its head up.”

The photos show a big, black animal by the tree line. The beast then vanished out of view.

The chilling sighting was on April 23 but has only just come to light. Previously, a local heard growling around the nearby village of Mendlesham.

Sheeran’s £3.7million estate is near Framlingham. The pop star – whose songs also include Shivers – is worth an estimated £300m.

There have been reports of alleged big cat sightings across the UK for decades. Often locals have been able to take photos of them or find suspicious animal carcasses they could have preyed on.

Most reports have described panthers or pumas. Many big cat experts keep records of them to support the theory.

Those who back the idea that there are big cats in Britain, think they could be escaped pets. Others think species have been illegally released into the wild. But those who fear they are an urban myth say large domestic dogs and cats could be mistaken for them.

Others question if they could survive in the chilly UK climate. Among the most famous ones are the ‘Beast of Exmoor’ in Devon in the 80s. Others include regular alleged sightings of a puma on Shropshire.

But one of the other hot spot areas is Suffolk. As well as the recent one near Sheeran’s home, there was another near Eye in 2008. There was also one at Mendlesham in 2015 and one in Hoxne in 2006.

Sheeran has been approached for comment.
