Peter Kay has been slammed for allegedly making a mean joke at Lisa Riley after two hecklers were chucked out of his Manchester homecoming gig.

The 51-year-old comedian, who recently showed off his dramatic weight loss out in public, has returned to the stage after years away from the spotlight. His tour last year reportedly raked in a whopping £27m in gross revenue.

Peter has been doing his Better Late Than Never Again! tour this month – the tour is spanning this year and 2026. However, he has come under fire after his homecoming gig at Manchester’s AO Arena on Saturday night (February 8).

One audience member who left the show early claimed Kay was “nasty and bitter” and that “his performance was poor”. He reportedly grew frustrated during the gig when two disruptive audience members continued heckling him.

One man in the audience was told to leave as he kept shouting Kay’s iconic “garlic bread” catchphrase during the gig. A female audience member was also removed from the show after shouting “we love you”.

It’s believed Peter then compared the punter to Emmerdale star Lisa Riley while she was being escorted out by security. The comedian reportedly said to her: “Go on, off you go Lisa Riley.”

Lisa, 48, is best known for playing Mandy Dingle in Emmerdale and has openly discussed her struggles with weight. The actress has shed an incredible 12 stone in recent years after overhauling her lifestyle and diet.

Others reportedly left early as they were disappointed by the show which was dubbed “chaotic” – despite waiting years to see Kay on stage. One audience member told Mail Online: “The whole thing just feels very nasty and bitter.

“His performance was poor but the way he dealt with one heckler and someone shouting “we love you” was ridiculous. My friend and I left the show after that, half an hour early. Others left the show early too.”

Another audience member claimed: “I’ve lost a lot of respect for Peter Kay after the way he treated the heckler at the end of his Manchester Feb 8 show. Having him removed by force by his entourage and cracking jokes about it over the three or four minutes it took. No manners. Huge waste of money.”

They continued: “He did a blind person impression which was really offensive, made a lot of jokes about how he hasn’t had an erection for years after “sertraline 40mg” and made other very rude jokes which isn’t what you’d expect.

“He also said Paddy McGuinness will do anything for a bit of money, called him deaf and then pulled apart his show about factories. I understand humour is subjective so it may just be a few people who didn’t appreciate the jokes last night.”

The Bolton-born star’s Better Late Than Never tour has been hailed one of the most successful tours of 2024. It brought in a total of £26,992,507 from 35 dates, according to data from US analytics company Pollstar.

Only fellow comedian Michael McIntyre, 48, came close to matching Kay among UK comics, reportedly earning £10,284,888. Tickets were priced at around £59.70, and each show last year generated around £771k.

Daily Star has approached Peter Kay’s representatives for comment on this story.
