R Kelly was hospitalised after a prison overdose which is thought to be an alleged murder plot against the singer, according to lawyers.
His legal time has claimed that after he was placed in solitary confinement, jail staff provided him an “overdose quantity” of medication on June 12, which was vastly different compared to his normal anxiety and sleep medication dosages.
The singer’s legal team claimed he was left “bedridden” and woke up feeling “faint” and “dizzy” the next morning and “crawled to the door of the cell and lost consciousness”.
He was then hospitalised on June 13. According to the legal filing from his team, the disgraced singer was forcibly taken out of the North Carolina hospital, which was done against medical advice.
In the lead up to this, the musician was placed in solitary confinement “against his will,” shortly after his legal reps requested an emergency motion for his release from prison.
In the filling, his team claimed three Bureau of Prisons officials allegedly planned a murder plot against the star, to have him killed by another inmate.
Kelly, 58, is behind bars at the Federal Correctional Institute facility after being sentenced to 30 years in prison back in 2021.
He was found guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering, which involved underage children and women.
US District Judge Ann Donnelly said the musician had an “indifference to human suffering” and used sex as a weapon, forcing victims to do unspeakable things and giving some of them sexually transmitted diseases.
She said in court: “You taught them that love is enslavement and violence.”
