A Sky News presenter has announced they’re leaving the channel after seven years.

Last month, Sky News veteran Kay Burley announced she was retiring from the broadcaster after 36 years, following reports she was going to leave Sky News back in December. And Sky Sports legend Nick Powell has also revealed he’s putting the mic down after 43 years in the industry.

Sally Lockwood, who joined Sky in 2017, is the latest presenter to announce her exit. The anchor took to social media and revealed she was stepping down after seven years at the channel, and that she’d be relocating to the Middle East to start an exciting new chapter in her career.

She wrote: “I’m leaving my job as a presenter at Sky News. It’s been a very tough decision after 7 very happy years. I’ll be relocating to the Middle East with my family and launching a new venture in journalism, in partnership with political powerhouse @tarapalmeri.

“You’ll still see me on TV, but our new show will be online. Details to follow!” Sally wanted to thank her team in the final part of her message, adding: “Thank you to the talented team at Sky for everything they’ve taught me and for all the unforgettable memories.

“It’s such a lucky job being trusted to tell people’s stories and to witness history firsthand. To do it with people you call friends, is an utter privilege.”

Viewers rushed to wish her well on her next venture, with one writing: “Good luck with the new venture Sally.” Another said: “Shame you’re leaving but best of luck with the move and everything. Look forward to hearing more about it!” Someone else penned: “Good luck in your future endeavours.”

A fourth added: “Whenever I see you, I always think of your reports from Italy at the start of Covid. Powerful TV.”

Back in December 2023, the former ITN host announced she was pregnant, and the news came as a shock to viewers as she had managed to hide her baby bump on air. Sally thanked her co-workers for supporting her over the past few months.

Sally revealed that her colleagues had “looked after” her as she “attempted to hide a large belly, leggings and nausea on air.” She hailed her work “family” as the “kindest people in the biz as well as the best” and said she’d be “cheering” the Sky News team on “from the sidelines” for a few months while she focuses on motherhood.

Sally was previously a US correspondent for Sky News and has covered some of the world’s biggest stories, including the murder of George Floyd and the storming of Congress. Many viewers will remember her coverage of Italy’s Covid outbreak as it became the first country in Europe to go into lockdown.

Before her time at Sky, Sally worked at ITN and had also spent six months working for Forces News in Afghanistan.

In May 2021, Sally paid tribute to her now-husband Ronan six months after he popped the question. “We’ve been separated by travel restrictions for most of the last year yet Ro’s support has been immense,” she wrote.

“No matter what time zones we were on I always woke to a text, after one pretty tough day he kept the phone line open through the night and he was even mad enough to propose in November. Big shout out to loved ones behind the scenes who support us doing our crazy jobs.”
