Spice Girls’ rumoured anniversary tour may not be as successful as they hope.
Speculation surrounding the pop group’s potential reunion has been flooding the internet and while many theories have been launched, one thing has remained consistent – Victoria Beckham will very likely not be involved.
Speaking on behalf of Betfred Lotto, Celebrity PR Specialist Kayley Cornelius spoke to Daily Star about the impact this will have on a future tour – although nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
“It is perhaps not surprising but still rather disappointing that Victoria Beckham is reportedly set to miss out on the much-rumoured Spice Girls reunion, and this news could well dampen enthusiasm among some fans.”
“This reunion had the potential to generate the same kind of international buzz that surrounded Oasis when they announced their comeback tour last year. However, with Victoria seemingly unwilling to come to the table, it’s unlikely to become the global phenomenon the band and their label may have been banking on.”
Kayley pointed out that “nostalgia remains a powerful force in entertainment” which is evident from the interest in Oasis’ comeback and the success of the Girls Aloud reunion tour.
However, there are a few key details as to why these ventures have got fans so excited: “Part of the reason their return resonated so strongly was the authenticity it offered: a full line-up of original Girls Aloud members and a heartfelt tribute to the late Sarah Harding gave fans something genuinely emotional and memorable to connect with.”
Posh Spice is arguably “the most globally recognisable member of the group” and is one of the “most high-profile A-list celebrities of our time,” meaning that she has a lot on her plate.
“Unlike her bandmates – Geri, Emma, Mel B and Mel C – Victoria is the only one to have completely distanced herself from her music career since the band’s original run. As such, her return to the stage would be the most highly anticipated of all and arguably the only element that could elevate this reunion into an international cultural moment.”
Despite this, Kayley says that any upcoming tour “is still likely to be a sell-out success,” particularly in their home country “where fans remain eager to relive their favourite noughties hits.”
