Stone Roses legend Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield died due to ‘respiratory issues’ linked to a long-standing lung condition, according to the MEN.
The Manchester music icon tragically died peacefully in his sleep aged 63 at his family home in Stockport.
The death of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist was confirmed by family members after paramedics attended his home in Heaton Moor on November 20.
According to the MEN, understands he was not taken to hospital with his death being declared at the scene. Police are not believed to have attended the address with a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesperson confirming the tragedy was ‘non-suspicious’.

His death has not been referred to the coroner, South Manchester Coroners’ Court, in Stockport but Mani’s family have told the MEN that he passed away peacefully in his sleep.
It is reported that his death was caused by ‘respiratory issues’ linked to his long-standing battle with emphysema.
Mani’s passing was broken to the world in a post on social media by his brother Greg. His borther wrote on Facebook: “IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID.”

Gary’s nephew also paid a heartbreaking tribute to the rocker, writing on X: “Unfortunately with sad news my uncle Gary Mani Mounfield from the stone roses has sadly passed away today.
“Thinking of his twins and my uncle Greg at this sad time. He will be reunited in heaven with his lovely wife Imelda RIP Manni Your annoying nephew.”
His fellow Stone Roses bandmate Ian Brown wrote on X: “REST IN PEACE MANi X”. Liam Gallagher penned: “In total shock and absolutely devastated on hearing the news about Mani my hero”.
Happy Mondays singer Rowetta posted on X: “Going to miss you so much. All my love to the boys, the family & all those who knew & loved him.”
Mani’s funeral is due to take place next Monday (December 22).
A service, to which entry is by invite only, is being held at Manchester Cathedral at 11:30am. This will be followed by a private committal service and an invite-only wake.
