Superman star David Corenswet has revealed he had trouble getting “up, up and away” when he needed the loo because his costume didn’t have a fly.

The US actor opted against a suit with a zip close to his privates for the new blockbuster, meaning he had to leg it off set when natured called. However David did manage to get the whole round-trip down to three and a half minutes.

The Philadelphia star said: “We tried the zipper, it wouldn’t work. It is quite intricate and it’s all on a knife’s edge, this suit stuff about they don’t have special zippers that function differently. It’s just a zipper.

“They do make custom stuff for the suit. But a zipper’s a zipper and so it comes with trade-offs and in the end, the trade-off visually of trying to hide a zipper in a key place was not worth it. By the time we got good at it, Scotty, my dresser and I could get out of the suit in about three and a half minutes.”

David, 32, also revealed that the costumiers played around with how the suit would work around his body right until the final moments of shooting.

“I mean definitely there were some places where it got adjusted for a fit and we figured out some ways that it needed to function, that it couldn’t function at that first camera test – certain positions I needed to be able to hold or fight moves I needed to be able to pull off,

“I mean the biggest decision was trunks or no trunks, and that was up until we tested both on camera. But I think at that point we kind of all knew looking at it that trunks were the way to go.”

However Nicholas Hoult – who played baddie Lex Luthor – said his technique to pop to the bathroom was much easier.

“I just unzip, which is a lot quicker than three and a half minutes,” he said. “I’m willing to be timed. I’m ready to go I don’t take my pants off fully, I just unzip.”
