This Morning star faces backlash after ‘not funny’ April Fool’s ‘pregnancy news’

One This Morning presenter took to social media to share a surprise announcement with her followers – but not everyone was impressed with her joke on April Fool’s Day

A This Morning presenter has landed in hot water after making a fake “announcement”.

ITV’s Georgina Burnett had her fans doing a double-take with what seemed to be a big reveal about expecting a bundle of joy – but it was just an April Fools’ gag. The telly star, who is known for her for DIY and upcycling tips on This Morning, threw a curveball on Instagram with a snap that showed her seemingly cradling a baby bump beneath her top.

With strands of her hair obscuring part of her face, she told fans that she was announcing “news” in the caption. However, given the date on the calendar her suspicious followers started questioned whether the announcement was genuine.

Georgina typed some wink emojis in the comments to confirm the jest, but not everyone saw the funny side. One disappointed commenter wrote: “Not funny if this is an April Fool’s joke,” while another person said the prank was “embarrassing”.

Georgina’s post has since been deleted

“As a grown adult you actually think this is funny? […] I’m sure you’ve meant no offence but this is in incredibly poor taste. This is deeply hurtful to the huge number of women suffering with infertility,” scorned another follower.

The post has now been deleted from Georgina’s Instagram page. Daily Star has approached her representatives for comment.

Later, she updated her Instagram with a tribute to her cat and wished him happy birthday.

“News…my first bundle of joy became a teenager today! Happy birthday Dexter – dreamies for tea,” she wrote as fans flocked to wish him well.

However, one person didn’t let the pregnancy joke slide and typed: “Really insensitive to post fake pregnancy announcements” underneath the post about her pet.

Georgina, also known as The Home Genie, often appears on This Morning showing off her crafts and upcycled items. She shared a daughter and a son with her ex-husband.

On Valentine’s Day 2023, Georgina announced that she and ex-husband Andy Flawn were calling it quits after 20 years. Taking to social media, she didn’t fish for pity but rather geared up for a fresh start as a solo mum.

She wrote: “It’s time for me to share some personal news. Something I’ve been dealing with this past year is my marriage splitting up.”

“Never easy for anyone, especially the kids, but don’t worry – I’m not alone today, and I’m excited about my next, happier chapter.”

Instead of getting caught up in past events, Georgina expressed her eagerness to look to the future, lightheartedly remarking: “So no pity party, please – I just want to talk about skirting boards today. Which one would you go for?”

Fake pregnancy pranks can hit a nerve, especially for those tangled up in fertility woes. This isn’t the first time a celebrity has faced backlash over an April Fools’ pregnancy post, reports the Mirror.

Back in 2022, Kerry Katona was scolded over her own fake baby bombshell. The ex-Atomic Kitten star explained that a gag meant for her inner circle ended up on her public profile.

Kerry’s rep stated: “She sincerely apologises to anyone who was offended and would never intentionally post something to upset people.”
