Tom Holland is set to return as Peter Parker in the upcoming Marvel superhero blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is the follow-up to 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home
Tom Holland has revealed that the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day will surpass its predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home, due to its decision to ditch production sets in favour of filming on real locations.
The 29-year-old actor, who is set to reprise his role as the web-slinging superhero, has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that filming on location will allow for a more authentic and immersive experience. Glasgow has been chosen as the first location, with filming scheduled to commence next month.
In an interview with Flip Your Wig, Holland explained: “I’m obviously over the moon and so excited. Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal, and I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID. We shot the entire film on stages.
“Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow.”
Holland also revealed that the city’s streets will play host to a “massive set piece” in the film, adding to the excitement surrounding the project.
Looking ahead to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the actor hinted that the film would recapture the magic of his 2017 debut, Spider-Man: Homecoming, describing it as a “breath of fresh air”.
He teased: “It’s gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It’s been such a long time that I’ve done it that it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air.
“And I think the fans are gonna be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”
The highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to swing into cinemas, with Tom Holland reprising his role as the web-slinging superhero.
He’ll be joined by familiar faces, including Zendaya as Michelle ‘MJ’ Jones-Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Jon Bernthal as the rugged vigilante, The Punisher.
New additions to the cast include Sadie Sink, known for her role in Stranger Things, and Liza Colón-Zayas from The Bear, although their characters remain under wraps for now.
The plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains shrouded in mystery, but whispers suggest Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk might emerge as the main antagonist – a rumour yet to be confirmed.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the movie is slated for release on July 31, 2026.
When Holland and Cretton unveiled the title at CinemaCon in March, the young star hinted that Spider-Man: Brand New Day would mark a “fresh start” for the beloved Wall-Crawler.
Appearing on screen, Holland teased: “I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, where Peter Parker sacrificed his identity to save the people that he loves most in the world.
“So, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say. That’s all I’ve been allowed to say, and I’m well over the hump of giving away spoilers. So don’t you worry: I’m not gonna do that today.”
