Christina Chambers and husband Johnny Rimes, who share a three-year-old son, were found dead in their Alabama home with gunshot wounds as police launch an investigation
A beloved TV presenter and her husband have been discovered dead at their family residence in what officers believe to be a murder -suicide.
Sports journalist Christina Chambers and her spouse Johnny Rimes, who share a three year old son and wed in 2021, were discovered with gunshot injuries by a relative in devastating circumstances. The couple’s child was unharmed.
Officers were summoned to the pair’s Alabama home at 9am on Tuesday morning following the family member’s horrific find. Confirming Christina and Johnny perished from gunshot wounds, the vacuum Police Department stated: “Hoover Fire-Medics responded to the residence and pronounced a male and a female deceased from gunshot wounds.
“Although the investigation is in its early stages, it appears these deaths are the result of a murder/suicide, and there is no threat to the public related to this case.”
According to a LinkedIn profile, Johnny served as a financial analyst at the American Cast Iron Pipe Company for nearly 14 years. Meanwhile, local broadcaster WBRC, where Christina was employed for a decade, honoured the presenter, reports the Mirror.
In a statement to ABC 33.40, they expressed: “We are heartbroken to confirm the death of former WBRC reporter Christina Chambers. Christina was a valued member of our newsroom and a beloved colleague whose warmth, humour, and passion for sports left a lasting impact on everyone who worked with her.
“Christina was an accomplished journalist and athlete who brought energy, professionalism, and genuine care to her work,” the statement continued. “She was especially proud of her ties to UAB [University of Alabama Birmingham], high school sports, and her community. We are praying for Christina’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Colleagues at WRBC also honoured their workmate during Tuesday afternoon’s news programme. In a touching tribute, one of her former colleagues said: “Knowing Christina was knowing joy.”
Christina became part of WBRC, which is a Fox News affiliate, in November 2015. Her journalism concentrated on reporting sports coverage at university and regional secondary school football matches throughout Alabama and Georgia.
Following her marriage to Johnny, the journalist embarked on a fresh career as a teacher at a nearby secondary school where she mentored pupils in television and cinema studies. At the same time, she carried on with occasional freelance journalism work.
The probe into the pair’s deaths continues.
