After Life’s trailer for season two has dropped – and Ricky Gervais fans couldn’t be happier.
Season one of the Netflix drama was a smash hit with viewers when it first aired back in March 2019.
Following Ricky as heartbroken widower Tony, the series explored themes of grief and love with the comedian’s trademark dark sense of humour.
Set in the fictitious town of Tambury, newspaper journalist Tony tried to move past the death of his wife Lisa, with often tear-jerking results.
With six new episodes, the second season looks just as promising, as Tony vows to help his loved-ones to better themselves and improve their lives.

Reflecting on his late wife Lisa in one part of the trailer, he says: “People think all things I miss doing with Lisa, I could do anyway. They’re missing the point. I miss doing nothing with her.”
Taking to Twitter after the trailer’s release, fans of the show revealed they had been moved to fears by the brief glimpse of the second series.
One gushed: “See if you haven’t watched After Life. Do it. It’s a beautiful piece of television. After Life Two is coming and its trailer has me in tears already. @rickygervais I can’t wait.”

And a third wrote: “I burst into tears and laughter at the same time when I saw the trailer of #AfterLife2. Thank you @rickygervais, I needed that.”
“Happy happy tears! Needed this so much today,” swooned a fourth.

Discussing the new series, Ricky told Mail Online: “It’s been truly heart-warming to see how the show has resonated with so many viewers on an emotional level. I can’t wait for everyone to see season 2 where hope is everything.”
With just 15 days to go, no doubt Ricky Gervais’ fans will be crossing the days off on their calendars.
After Life season two will air on Netflix UK on April 24.
