Actor Danny Goldman who voiced Brainy Smurf on The Smurfs dies age 80

Hollywood actor Danny Goldman has died at the age of 80.

It has been reported his death is not related to coronavirus which has taken over 20,000 lives in the US.

According to American website TMZ, the star, who was best known for voicing the character of Brainy Smurf in the cartoon series The Smurfs, died at his home night with his friends and family by his side.

He suffered two strokes around New Year.

Doug Ely, his long-time agent, broke the news on Facebook, and wrote the actor was “incredibly funny with a huge heart.”

The tribute read: “Danny was truly one of a kind. He always had strong opinions and didn’t mind telling you about them. He was incredibly funny. He loved to root for the little guy and help wherever he could.

“He had a huge heart. We lost a good one today. He will be missed.”

The New York native kick-started his career when he appeared in 1963’s General Hospital.

During his time on the small screen, he appeared in numerous shows including That Girl, Room 222, The Partridge Family, Love, American Style, Needles and Pins, Columbo, Baretta and Chico, and the Man.

He was a regular member of the cast of the situation comedy Busting Loose in 1977, and appeared in Young Frankenstein in 1976.

However, he reached the big time when he voiced Brainy Smurf when The Smurfs debuted in 1981 as a Saturday morning cartoon series on NBC.

He continued with the role until the series ended in 1989, but the show’s popularity kept the series on the air via USA Network, the Cartoon Network and most recently, the Boomerang channel.

Danny’s most recent role was in 2012 when he made a small appearance in Criminal Minds.
