David Bowie and Kanye West conspiracy theory – creepy Starman prophecy explored

Kanye West and David Bowie are two iconic artists from different times and genres but their paths appear to cross more than you think.

For years some ardent music conspiracy theorists have believed in a wild and bizarre theory that Bowie actually saw into the future and prophesied West’s talent before he was even born.

Theorists also believe that Bowie, who died on January 10, 2016, must have known that it was West’s destiny to become one of music’s arguably most controversial and innovative figures of the 20th century.

And fans believe that Glastonbury legend Bowie knew this back in 1972, exactly five years before Kim Kardashian’s husband had even been born.

It all began in 1972 when Bowie released his iconic rock-opera album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

It was Bowie’s fifth studio album and inspired his alter ego Ziggy Stardust, who wore flaming red hair and a lightning strike painted on his face.

The theory that Bowie had predicted West’s birth and greatness came about in a 2007 Blogspot site self-described as the “official blog for the Kanye West, David Bowie conspiracy”.

The post, written by one fan, made a lengthy case for how Bowie and West are linked to one another in the most peculiar of ways.

Writing about how the links started with Bowie’s album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, the theorist explained what it is about the cover that caught his attention.

He wrote: “The cover of Bowie’s 1972 album featured an image of the rock star posing jauntily on a dark London street, surrounded by cardboard boxes and damp concrete.

“The only really prominent focal point of the picture, aside from Bowie’s great shock of blonde hair? A single illuminated shop sign hanging just above his head that reads ‘K. West.’ Coincidence, perhaps?”

But the theorist had many more points to make as he explained the theory goes a lot deeper than just a title on an album.

The theorist then dissected the meaning behind the first song on that fifth album, which was called Five Years.

The lyrics behind Bowie’s song illustrate a grim setting of a world which is set to end in five years time, unless a hero-like character called Starman is born.

The prophecy in the song details how the Starman will arrive to save humanity from itself.

If you fast forward by five years and two days after the album was released you are met with Kanye West’s birth date, as the rapper was born on June 8, 1977.

Theorists believe West is the “Starman” that Bowie was talking about in his song, but the theory didn’t stop there.

In a 1974 interview with Rolling Stone, Bowie gave a bizarre prophetic description of how his alter ego eventually dies.

“As soon as Ziggy dies onstage, the infinites take his elements and make themselves visible,” he said.

Then, on January 10, 2016, the rock legend died from liver cancer after suffering for 18 months at the age of 69.

Very fittingly to the conspiracy West was one of the first artists to rush and commemorate him by releasing a statement an hour after Bowie’s death was confirmed by family.

West wrote at the time: “David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime.”

It spurred a Reddit user on to dig deeper into the theory made by the blogger and claim to discover more ways the album proves Bowie knew West was going to become great.

The user pointed out that Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, is confirmation to him that West is his chosen successor.

He said: “First, the rapper is, quite literally, a black star, and second, the album’s first track, titled ‘Blackstar,’ features some eerily revealing lyrics.

“Something happened on the day he died,” the lyrics read. “Spirit rose a meter and stepped aside/ Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried/ ‘I’m a blackstar, I’m a blackstar!'”

He went on to share that he had found more critical tie-ins to add to the conspiracy.

The Reddit user about how the third track off Bowie’s Blackstar, which he recorded during his secret cancer battle, is titled Lazarus, a nod to the Biblical character of the same name.

In the Bible, Lazarus falls ill and dies. He is placed in a tomb, and Jesus brings him back from the dead through the power of prayer.

The Reddit user wrote: “It’s important to note here that the third track off West’s 2013 Yeezus album was called, un-ironically, ‘I Am A God.’ (The theory is helped along here by the fact that the outspoken rapper posed with a crown of thorns on the cover of Rolling Stone back in 2006.)

“Could the Jesus-West comparisons be any more clear?”
