BBC telly presenter Richard Bacon’s car burst into flames as he was driving his wife and children home.
The ex-Blue Peter host posted pictures on Instagram showing the Land Rover Discovery’s engine ablaze and spewing smoke.
Firefighters tackled the flames after the motor caught fire while the family headed from Malibu to their home in Los Angeles along the Pacific Coast Highway.
Richard was with his wife Rebecca, daughter Ivy, six, son Arthur, eight, and their pet dog.

But he said everyone was “safe and happy” after they made a quick escape when the vehicle started to make a funny noise.
Richard, 44, wrote: “I guess we’re gonna need a lift home.
“Thanks to the lovely Santa Monica fire department and the delightful people who stopped to help.

“The car started making a funny noise as we drove home. Then dramatically caught fire. Because we’ve seen a lot of films we moved back thinking it might explode.
“It didn’t. Apparently that’s just a movie thing. All four of us were in there. Everyone fine and happy. May not go with Land Rover next time.’’
He was clearly shocked by Monday’s incident as he filmed from a safe distance. In a follow-up video, he showed Arthur and Ivy as they wore firefighter helmets while watching the professionals put out the flames.
While in another, Richard showed the family getting a lift home with the burned-out wreck of their car being towed behind them.
In June, the Brit bought a £4million mansion in the Hollywood Hills where his neighbours include stars Justin Bieber, Keanu Reeves and Sam Worthington.
The purchase came after he signed a deal with Universal Television to produce unscripted content for the US company.
