Bollywood icon Sanjay Dutt 'diagnosed with lung cancer'

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has reportedly been diagnosed with lung cancer.

The star established himself as one of the most popular Hindi film actors of the later 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, and made his acting debut in 1981’s Rocky, which was directed by his father.

Earlier today, the actor posted a statement on Twitter, announcing that he would be taking a “short break” from professional commitments to focus on medical treatment.

Taking to the social media site, he wrote: “I am taking a short break from work for some medical treatment. My family and friends are with me and I urge my well wishers not to worry or unnecessarily speculate.

“With your love and good wishes, I will be back soon.”

According to Times Now Digital, the 61-year-old actor was admitted to Lilavati Hospital after complaining of breathlessness, and was discharged from the medical facility on Monday.

He previously tweeted that he tested negative for Covid-19.

Dutt wrote: “Just wanted to assure everyone that I’m doing well. I’m currently under medical observation and my COVID-19 report is negative.

“With the help and care of the doctors, nurses and staff at Lilavati hospital, I should be home in a day or two. Thank you for your well wishes and blessings.”

A report by Film Information stated that the actor will soon fly to the US for treatment.

Sanjay Dutt’s wife Maanayata and the couple’s twins Iqra and Shahraan are believed to be in Dubai, where they were from before the lockdown, NDTV wrote.

Sanjay Dutt’s new film Sadak 2, which was scheduled for a theatre release this month, will now release on OTT platform Disney+Hotstar among other big Bollywood movies.

The actor was last seen in 2019 film Panipat.
