Eamonn Holmes instructed Denise Welch to “calm down” on today’s This Morning, during a debate about coronavirus scaremongering.
The Loose Women panellist appeared on the show with Doctor Sara Kayat, urging the government and the media to cut back on excessive coronavirus updates in an effort to ease fears.
Denise, 62, spoke passionately on the show, raising her voice as she made her point to viewers, expressing her fears for those suffering from mental health issues and other ailments post-lockdown.
She said: “I’m trying to allay the fears of somebody afraid if they go outside and touch somebody they’re going to get coronavirus.”
However, when Eamonn tried to give Dr Sara a chance to speak, Denise raised her voice, prompting the reply: “Calm down.”
He added: “Let’s hear what the doctor says.”

Dr Sara agreed those with health concerns should visit their GP, urging them against letting Covid fears get in the way of a check-up.
She said: “If you are not well you need to discuss it with your GP.”
Later, at the end of the interview, Denise raised her voice again, before adding: “I know I’m passionate about this.”
Eamonn made it clear he respected her perspective, saying: “You’re not alone.”

Ruth Langsford added: “You’re allowed to be passionate Denise.”
Meanwhile, over on Twitter, viewers were divided over Denise’s appearance – while some felt Denise made some important points, others weren’t impressed by her delivery.
Complaining about Denise’s tone on the show, one fumed: “Coming across as very RUDE. Why shout and rave at eamon and ruth. It’s not there fault denise ffs. #ThisMorning.”
“#ThisMorning Christ she just jumped down Eamonns throat. @EamonnHolmes Lordy,” added a second.

And a third countered: “Why is Denise screaming at Ruth & Eamonn? Car crash interview.”
However, others agreed wholeheartedly with Denise, making it clear they were also concerned about scaremongering in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
One said: “@RealDeniseWelch has spoken EXTREMELY well @thismorning She’s made valid points and isn’t getting the right responses at all!”
And a second agreed: “Denise is right, the scaremongering does need to stop. Cancer and mental health are probably at an all time high. I cannot imagine what the backlog looks like on waiting lists. With all going on these people have been pushed to the back of the line.”
“Denise is SPOT ON,” added a third.
This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV
