Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown gave an emotional message to Kate Garraway today as her husband Derek Draper as he continues to fight for his life.
Gordon, 69, joined Kate and Ranvir Singh on Good Morning Britain to discuss the impact the coronavirus pandemic could have on young people’s jobs in the future.
However, as the interview drew to a close, Gordon paid a subtle reference to Kate’s family situation, following her husband’s hospitalisation earlier this year.
He said: “And our thoughts are always with Kate and her family.”
Looking downward, Kate’s voice quietened and she replied: “Well, thank you very much.”

Derek, 53, was admitted to hospital with coronavirus in March, and though he no longer has the virus in his system, it has wreaked havoc on his internal organs.
After defeating Covid, the dad-of-two has been left with blood clots in his lungs and is diabetic, as he remains in a state of minimum consciousness in his hospital bed.
Gordon and Derek, who was formerly a member of the Labour party, had worked together in the past before the lobbyist stepped down from politics.

A friend of the family, this isn’t the first time Gordon has used his platform on GMB to send his regards to Derek.
On October 9, during an interview with Kate and her co-host Ben Shepherd, he sent his well wishes to Kate’s husband.
Thanking the former PM for his kind words, Kate said: “It’s been a tough week for Derek, but he is fighting.”
Appearing via video call, Lorraine Kelly then shared a few words of support, as she joined from her wing of the ITV studios.

She said: “I’m sorry it’s been a rough week, we love having you on the telly.”
Ben Shephard brought some light comedy to the situation, as he joked: “Do we, do we?”
With a smile brought to her face, Kate replied: “Ben is not so sure Lorraine, perhaps it’s because you’re far away from me in different studios.”
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV
