BBC One viewers describe 'total carnage' as station completely stops working

BBC One was the talk of Twitter on Monday evening as the broadcaster experienced some epic technical difficulties as they attempted to air a Panorama special.

Taking to social media, viewers were quick to poke fun at the channel and described it as “total carnage”.

“Someone getting the chop after this shambles…” one person tweeted.

A second Twitter user added: “Oh God this is going from bad to worse #bbcone.”

Another person posted: “BBC One attempted to show an episode of Garden Rescue, but it then fails. Panorama then starts to air, but the sound fails. This is a nightmare.”

BBC One stopped working on Monday evening as they channel experienced technical difficulties

As viewers were met with a red screen, the broadcaster said: “We are working very hard to get our programmes back on air, and as soon as we can we will have something for you to watch.”

Another person attempting to tune into the Panorama special ‘Can Biden Unite America?’ tweeted: “We need a Panorama investigation into why Panorama on BBC One is having technical issues.”

One intrigued viewer claimed that President Donald Trump had something to do with the technical blunder and posted: “Trump hacks bbc one biden doc.”

BBC One was attempting to show a Panorama special about the US presidential election

“At least they’ve added waiting music now! #bbc #panorama.”

When the programme eventually started, many people moaned about the fact that the latest episode of EastEnders would now air later.

The popular soap was supposed to be on at 8:05pm, but it still hadn’t started by 8:10pm.

“@bbceastenders where is it? Don’t want Panorama!” one person stated.

“Interesting that anti-Trump Panorama piece overruns by 10+ minutes (5 more than scheduled) so the propaganda reaches people wanting to watch Eastenders,” another tweeted.

“This stuff is planned and they are very clever ill give them that at least (sic).”

A third person moaned: “BBC why is #EastEnders not on? I’m not paying my TV License to watch Panorama!”

The Panorama special showed Donald Trump and Joe Biden supporters going head-to-head in America as they watched the recent US election unfold.

But UK viewers described the situation as a “political mess” as they tuned in this evening.

In a statement, the BBC apologised and said the schedule was running five minutes late.

It said: “Unfortunately major technical issues delayed the start of Panorama this evening. The BBC One schedule is now running five minutes late – we apologise to viewers for the disruption.”

Good Morning Britain host and former BBC Breakfast presenter Susanna Reid joked: “2020 has claimed BBC One.”
