Strictly fans in meltdown as male pros don dresses and heels for opening routine

Strictly Come Dancing fans were in meltdown tonight as three of the male professional dancers wore dresses and heels for the BBC show’s opening routine.

Viewers were loving the energetic opening dance as Johannes, Gorka and Giovanni got glammed up for the fabulous routine – even rocking a full face of makeup.

Fans of the show took to Twitter to announce their excitement as they watched the dance.

One exclaimed: “Those Male dancers on #strictly have no right looking that fabulous in heels, dresses, head gear and make up.”

While another added: “Johannes, Gorka & Gio are the trio I didn’t know I needed, but the world needs these 3!! #Strictly”

A third chimed in: “Johannes, Gorka and Gio! Wow! Stole the dance the whole way through. they manage heels better than I do and I am 100% here for it #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”

The routine seemed to inspired by the drag ball culture and fashion of New York City, as well as The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

The trio were seen performing to a medley of songs, including Peaches & Herb’s Shake Ya Groove Thing and CeCe Peniston’s Finally, as they opened the show with their fellow pro dancers.

The opening routines were all recorded by the Strictly pros before the series began because of the current coronavirus pandemic.

Tonight’s (Dec 5) show saw the remaining celebrities perform dances to classic songs from musicals, looking to ge into next weekend’s semi final.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Sunday, airing at 7:30pm
