Doctor Who fans divided as dramatic New Year's episode receives mixed reviews

Doctor Who viewers were left divided over the New Year’s Day special of the iconic BBC show.

Jodie Whittaker was back playing the thirteenth Doctor alongside Yaz (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole), and Graham (Bradley Walsh).

The episode, Revolution of the Daleks, marks the first new Doctor Who instalment in almost a year, and it featured two iconic comebacks.

Firstly, actor John Barrowman was back playing the beloved Captain Jack Harkness, years after making his departure from the show.

Also, the Doctor’s arch-nemesis the Daleks made a return to the sci-fi fantasy.

Some viewers adored the episode as they showered the show with praise throughout the broadcast.

While another gushed: “I’m loving this Daleks episode omg”.

“I F***ING LOVE CAPTAIN JACK HARKNESS,” penned a third.

Others didn’t enjoy the episode as they branded it “boring”.

One said: “Who wrote this? It’s dreadful … Jack is the only redeeming feature.”

Another penned: “I really want to like this episode but it’s so boring.”

“Don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely been a few improvements, but the dialogue and pacing is just so off, especially for poor Jack. I’m finding it rather cringe-worthy,” stated another.

Viewers were reduced to tears at the end of the episode, as the show bid farewell to Graham and his step-grandson Ryan.

Fans were crying as they watched the characters walk away from the Tardis in the moving scenes.

The characters shared an emotional group hug which left viewers going into meltdown on Twitter.

One penned: “That ending gave me all the goosebumps and tears”.

Another gushed: “That was so good! I’m emotional. The way they ended Ryan and Graham’s time on the show was perfect.”

“Didn’t think I’d feel emotional at this but here I am holding back the tears,” commented a third.

After the episode finished, the show teased comedian John Bishop’s new TV role in the programme.
