Gogglebox’s Mary Killen is making the most of a sober lifestyle after ditching booze three-years-ago, following a severe case of food poisoning.
The reality favourite who appears on the hit Channel 4 programme alongside her husband Giles Wood, said that despite previously loving a glass of wine, it now makes her “recoil”.
Etiquette expert Mary was left shaken when she was struck down by campylobacter food poisoning and was left ill for five days, an illness she believes she picked up after eating “grubby” vegetables from the garden.
After falling ill, she was prescribed a series of antibiotics that left her thinking twice about booze.

“Immediately afterwards, I found I couldn’t face alcohol,” she revealed.
The Spectator agony aunt author added: “I remember going to a house party on the Isle of Mull a short time later.
“All sorts of wonderful wines were being served and I couldn’t touch any of them.”
The tele regular who has been giving her verdict on the weeks’ television since 2015 continued: “It made me recoil — reminding me of when I was pregnant with our two daughters, both of whom are now in their 20s.

“It has completely lost its appeal. I don’t even like the smell of it.”
Mary has previously had a dry spell, not drinking for ten years following the birth of her daughter after she contracted Legionnaires-related pneumonia.
“I don’t know if it was physiological or psychological, but I couldn’t face it,” she told the Mail Online.
Following her illness and not touching booze, Mary sees the benefit in having a “clearer head” as “drinking takes up too much time,” and has penned two books on The Queen as well as two etiquette books.
Gogglebox airs on Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
