Emmerdale's Mark Charnock pays tribute to on-screen son who died aged 3

Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock has paid tribute to his late on-screen son Harry Whittaker on what would’ve been his 10th birthday.

Harry, who played Marlon Dingle’s son Leo, died at the age of three in 2014 from chronic lung disease.

Taking to Twitter, Mark, 52, shared a photo of little Harry sat on some stairs while wearing a Spider-Man costume, with a huge smile on his face.

The actor wrote: “On what would have been his 10th birthday, thinking of this little Spider-Man today.

“Thinking of the joy he brought to everyone he encountered and of his giddy laughter.

“Thinking of our prince Harry with love and happy memories.”

Harry played Marlon and Rhona Goskirk’s (Zoe Henry) son between 2011 and 2014.

The little lad – who was Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker’s nephew – filmed his final scenes as Leo a few weeks before he tragically died.

His final on-screen appearance aired on July 11, 2014, 10 days after Harry had died.

At the time, an Emmerdale spokesperson said: “Very sadly we can confirm Harry Whitaker’s passing.

“We will all miss him greatly and have offered our sincerest condolences to his family at this very sad time.”

The ITV soap paid tribute to Harry during one of its episodes, putting up a photo of him during the credits.

It read underneath: “For Harry, with love.”

Leo is now played by Harvey Rogerson and has been since 2014.

On Emmerdale, his parents Marlon and Rhona have recently been rekindling their long-forgotten romance, years after they previously split up.

Marlon and Rhona have been spending some time together recently

Over the festive period, Marlon and Rhona spent some time together and realised they were enjoying each other’s company again.

They have been spending more time together in recent weeks, stealing moments of intimacy whenever they can.

However it has been difficult for them, as new vicar Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) has been lodging with her.

On Wednesday night’s episode, Marlon and Rhona were gearing up for a saucy mid-week romp with some sexy music and lingerie.

But Charles walked in and interrupted, leaving Marlon scrambling for words as Rhona burst into the room in silk negligee.

When she realised that they weren’t alone she quickly grasped her dressing gown and pulled it closed over her cleavage, as she and Marlon made excuses to Charles.

It’s certainly a major change in Marlon and Rhona’s relationship, as in recent years all they’ve done is co-parent and be friendly.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays, on ITV
