Piers Morgan’s final days on Good Morning Britain were spent criticising Meghan Markle over her controversial and highly-publicised TV interview with chat show extraordinaire Oprah Winfrey Sunday evening.
The Duchess of Sussex opened up on how isolated and lonely she’d felt in those two years working for Buckingham Palace.
The expecting mum-to-be then became emotional as she told Oprah she’d had suicidal thoughts, and was turned away when she approached members of “The Firm” for help.
Angry at Meghan’s words, claiming they were damaging to the royal family and he didn’t “believe a word she said”, Piers delivered an onslaught against the Duchess.
And in new reports, it turns out that Good Morning Britain employees came out in their droves to complain about the presenter’s comments.
After hosting the show for six years, 55-year-old Piers chose to step down on Tuesday after conversations with head bosses at ITV.
According to the Guardian, a number of staff members on GMB also issued complaints about Piers’s comments.
Daily Star has contacted ITV for comment.
One anonymous member of staff told the publication: “Everyone is used to Piers saying things like this, but Meghan had literally said that the media wasn’t treating her fairly because of who she is, and he was just doing it again.
“They felt that they had to be seen on the ‘morally right side of the argument,'” another said in claims bosses had “staged” Piers walking off after his row with Alex Beresford.
Yet one staff member reportedly said that actually the different attitudes towards Piers’ handling of the issue were “very much generational”, and it was younger workers who opposed him and his views.
Following his departure from GMB, in an uncharacteristically emotional tribute to his former colleagues, Piers tweeted: “I had one goal when I joined @GMB – beat @BBCBreakfast in the ratings. On my last day, we did it.
“That was down to the hard work & dedication of the whole team.
“They don’t all agree with me, some don’t even like me, but we were a team..and we won.
“Thanks guys. I’ll miss you,” the presenter added sadly.
