Big Brother star Nikki Grahame is determined to beat anorexia, her mum has revealed, having battled the disease over the past three decades.
Sue, 66, appeared on Tuesday’s This Morning, discussing her daughter’s condition with presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
Raising awareness of the eating disorder and the ways in which it can manifest, Sue explained Nikki has struggled with her eating since childhood.
Thanks to a fundraiser, Nikki is now in a rehabilitation facility undergoing treatment for the eating disorder, and the 38-year-old is hoping to get her “life back”.
Sue shared a message from her daughter with viewers, showing Nikki’s fighting spirit in the face of the devastating illness.
The proud mum recalled: “I heard from Nikki this morning, and she said, ‘Mum, please stress how overwhelmed I am at people’s kindness towards me. I just don’t get it. But I am so grateful’.”
Sue went on: “She said also, ‘Tell everybody that I am going to try my level best this time to beat this.
“I want to get my life back’.”
This Morning host Holly responded: “You can do it Nikki!”
“All our love if she’s watching now. Everyone’s behind you, as you can see,” Phillip added.
Reality star Nikki skyrocketed to fame back in 2007 when she appeared on the seventh season of Big Brother, later filming her own series Princess Nikki.
In recent years, Nikki retrained in education, working with children in a school and also taking courses in English and science.
Sadly, when the coronavirus pandemic hit, Nikki – like many in the UK – battled loneliness, which her mum Sue feels contributed to her deteriorating condition.
Sue said: “She just felt very cut off.”
Watching from home, This Morning viewers sent messages of support to the Big Brother star, letting Sue and Nikki know they were in their thoughts.
One Twitter user wrote: “Sending so much love to Nikki; her mum is so lovely.”
“Always feel so sorry for Nikki Grahame. Eating disorders are so hard to overcome. You’ve got this, Nikki. Stay strong,” penned a second.
