BBC inundated with complaints over coverage of Prince Philip's death

The BBC has been inundated with complaints over its reporting of The Duke of Edinburgh’s death, with many viewers arguing it has been excessive.

Many angry viewers complained about the “wall to wall coverage” about Prince Philip, who dedicated his life to Queen and country.

After the network was hounded with complaints by angry viewers, the Beeb set up a dedicated page specifically to handle complaints pertaining to its coverage of Prince Philip.

A message on the BBC website read: “We’re receiving complaints about too much TV coverage of the death of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“Please enter your email address below to register a complaint about this – we’ll then send you the BBC’s response as soon as it is available.”

Many viewers that the Prince Philip coverage was excessive

Media editor of the Guardian, Jim Waterson said: “The BBC, having adopted wall-to-wall Prince Philip coverage to avoid being criticised in parts of the media and politics has now received so many complaints about their wall-to-wall coverage they’ve set up a streamlined form to complain about it.”

Viewers were quick to react to the news, with some saying they also found the BBC’s coverage of Prince Philip’s death excessive.

Taking to Twitter, one disgruntled viewer remarked: “If we had extended news and special programmes I might have watched them.

“But wall to wall coverage for a non developing story is ridiculous.”

Prince Philip died at the age of 99

Another social networker disagreed and said the BBC should “absolutely” broadcast non-stop coverage of Prince Philip’s death and reaction “on a single channel”.

The commenter added: “In my opinion, the other channels should continue ‘business as usual’.

“Some programming may be inappropriate and need to be replaced / rescheduled.”

Both BBC One and BBC Two aired special tribute programmes in place of their normal scheduling.

This meant that the latest EastEnders instalment and Masterchef final were both put on hold.

The BBC said it was replacing it’s Friday programming with “special coverage across all BBC networks to mark his life of extraordinary public service”.
