Hollyoaks sign up Marian McLoughlin to play Luke Morgan's estranged mum Sue

Television star Marian McLoughlin has joined the cast of Hollyoaks as Luke Morgan’s estranged mother Sue.

The character was last seen in the village back in October 2002, but she returns next week to make amends with her son and has come bearing some heartbreaking news.

In upcoming scenes, there’s a frosty reunion between Luke (Gary Lucy) and Sue, as they try to rebuild their relationship.

Marian’s first Hollyoaks appearance as Sue will air on May 3 on E4 and again on May 4 on Channel 4.

Taking about joining the Channel 4 soap, Marian said: “It’s always a bit like your first day at school.

“You would think after 40 years or so of acting I would be used to it, but on Hollyoaks, from the moment I arrived, I was made to feel so welcome.

“I love playing Sue. She doesn’t have a filter and thinks she can say whatever she likes.”

She added: “She’s sort of passive aggressive, she smiles at you, but then there is a real sting in the tail.

“It is a treat playing Luke’s mum. She is on mission for Luke to be happy – at least her vision of what that should be. She has come back to make her peace with her son, for her neglectful mothering in the past.

“I’m so pleased to be filming alongside Gary – I couldn’t have wished for a more caring and generous actor to work with, and with a great sense of humour.”

Sue is the mother of Adam, Luke, Beth, and Zara Morgan. She is also the wife of Andy Morgan, whom she has married twice.

Marian, 68, is best known for her role as Marina Bonnaire on Doctors and has also appeared on Vera, Home Time, and Truckers.

His younger brother Curtis, 25, is now following in AJ’s footsteps and will make his first appearance as Jacob in upcoming scenes.

Opening up about his Hollyoaks role, the reality TV hunk said: “I am so excited to be working with my brother AJ on a show we grew up watching.
