Gogglebox viewers devastated as Jenny and Lee confirm final episode air date

Gogglebox favourites Jenny Newby and Lee Riley have shared some devastating news with fans.

It seems like Series 17 has only been on our screens for a few weeks but the besties have confirmed that they are completing their final week of filming the Channel 4 show.

The latest season of Gogglebox will come to an end next Friday, May 21.

Jenny and News broke the news with their fans on their official Instagram on Friday afternoon.

In a video from the famous caravan in Hull, Lee said: “Happy Friday everybody,” but Jenny said, “and sad Friday”.

Lee said: “Why so sad?” With Jenny replying: “It’s my last one.”

Lee said: “Oh yeah it’s our last filming week this week so we’re filming today… “

“And I’m going home soon,” chipped in Jenny.

It came as sad news for fans who are gutted that there’s only one episode remaining of series 17.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Oh no.. don’t go, you are the highlight go my week.”

Another added: “No way – when is the series back on after this series?”

A third person posted: “Will miss you so much.”

The best friends often bicker in the caravan

While fourth social media user said: “Awhh I’ll miss watching you both on a Friday night when it’s finished up.”

Jenny Newby and Lee Riley are officially the show’s most popular stars.

The pals have topped a poll of thousands of telly-mad viewers created by Daily Star and they were the runaway winners, scoring well ahead of any of their Channel 4 co-stars.

They joined the cast of Gogglebox in 2014 and have known each other for more than 20 years.

Posh couple Giles Wood and Mary Killen came second in our poll by survey specialists 72point.

Others who are popular include the Siddiqui family, who have been on the programme since the first series in 2013.

When Gogglebox launched, many scoffed at the idea of viewers watching people watch television.

But its amazing cast of characters soon helped it become one of Channel 4’s biggest shows.
