Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love's Hollywood home on sale for less than $1million

Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s old Hollywood Hills home, which they rented almost 30 years ago, is now on sale for $998,000.

The rockstar couple lived in the now-abandoned property, which sits on a hill in the iconic Hollywood Heights, during their rollercoaster relationship in the 90s.

The home, first built in 1921, is a massive 2,500 square-foot estate and is “full of original character and unique details”, according to its listing.

Although it is now in a significant state of disrepair, the Nirvana singer’s lower-level apartment boasts a living room with a “bird’s eye view of Hollywood” as well as a regal staircase, and four sets of towering French doors.

A unique selling point of the three-bedroom home is that it comes with a “key to a notable Hollywood landmark: the High Tower, a five-story, 100-foot-tall stone tower that houses an antique elevator built in the style of an Italian campanile”.

The apartment was last sold for $425,000 back in 1999, which was five years after Cobain’s suicide.

The late Nirvana star and Hole singer Courtney, 56, first brought their daughter Frances Bean home to the building after she was born in 1992.

And music buffs will be excited to hear that Cobain wrote most of Nirvana’s third and final album, In Utero, in the apartment, according to the 2011 documentary Hit So Hard.

Courtney paid tribute to her late husband on Instagram in February this year on the day of what would have been Kurt’s 54th birthday.

She captioned the post with a quote from the liner notes of the band’s compilation album Incesticide which was released in 1992.

The note read: “At this point I have a request for our fans. If any of you hate homosexuals, people of a different colour, or women, please, do this one favour for us – leave us the f*** alone! Don’t come to our shows and don’t buy our records.”

Love’s own message read: “Happy birthday beautiful boy”.

Many sources cite the famous couple meeting after a 1989 show, but music journalist Everett True claims he personally introduced Kurt and Courtney to each other in 1991.

The pair’s tumultuous relationship gained extensive media coverage and numerous films have been made about the couple.

In 2015, Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck premiered on HBO telling the songwriter’s life, and both Courtney and his daughter attended the premiere.
