James Corden had good intentions when retweeting a photo of an older man sitting on his own with a kind hearted caption about looking after your elderly – but it spectacularly backfired.
Little did the star know, the photo was of 59-year-old Wayne Lineker, though it seems the the very un-Wetherspoons like pool hadn’t given away to Cordon that the tweet was a joke.
The tweet said: “Seen a little old man sitting alone in Wetherspoons, couldn’t use the app and staff ignored him for over 15mins.
“We bought him two pints and sat him closer for a chat, he ain’t spoken to anyone in months, look after your elderly.”
James had tweeted the story saying that it was “such a lovely message” before deleting shortly after as his followers informed him of the blunder.
A Twitter user was quick to screenshot the post though, sharing it on the social media platform for a good laugh.
Wayne Lineker himself popped into the comments to “lol” at the post while some users called out how obvious the place in the photo wasn’t a Wetherspoons, saying: “Decent looking Wetherspoons.”

While the photo is unrelated, the story was real and hit headlines earlier this week as punter Mark Farrier tweeted out a real image of a man alone in Wetherspoons.
The post gained attention online, causing some people to dispute the claims and good intentions of Mark.
The Subreddit Casual UK was quick to make memes of the image, most recently with one post joking about someone getting his grandad drunk at Spoons.
“This is my grandad Colin, he came home last night, fell through the door and told my nan to lose the weight,” they said.
“Apparently he drank 19 pints of Moretti in Wetherspoons, to anyone who bought him one you should be thoroughly ashamed.”
The tweet of Wayne by the pool was to be another joke for the community but it seems James fell for it momentarily.
