Arnold Schwarzenegger is a household name and notoriously known for his Terminator slogan “I’ll be back” but what else has the n Austrian-born legend done during his time on earth? Let’s take a look…
Even though the star is now turning 74, Arnie is not your typical pensioner and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.
The actor turned climate activist is arguably just as busy as he was in his heyday and these days can still be spotted at a muscle gym or at a global summit fighting climate change.
The big guy has turned his hand to many a trade over the years including a stint as a US governor, a professional bodybuilder, a family man and these days he focuses his full efforts on campaigning for a greener world.
Starting from the top
Arnold was born on July 30, 1947, and was born in Thal, near Graz, Austria.
The celeb first started out as a bodybuilder and was coined Austrian Oak due to his incredible stature – towering at a whopping 6 foot 2 inches.
After smashing local competitions and nailing a Mr Universe competition, Arnie then packed his suitcase and flew over to the US in order to seek out bigger contests.
Settling in California in 1968, he continued to compete in world-renowned bodybuilding competitions and then decided to follow his passion for acting – landing his first movie role in 1970 starring in Hercules in New York.
But his Hollywood career didn’t really take off until he was cast in The Terminator franchise – which is still a heavily referred to cult film now.
Deciding that being a reigning king of the silver screen and muscle world wasn’t enough, he then became increasingly active within the Republican party after securing his American citizenship in 1983.
In 2003, he was elected governor of California in a recall election and amazingly refused his Governor’s generous starting salary.
(We mean, we’re sure the wealthy star wasn’t short, but still…)
This set him up with record-high approval ratings, but on his departure from office in 2007, he exited with some of the lowest ratings ever seen.
Family life
Arnold coupled up with television journalist Maria Shriver and married her in 1986.
The star appeared unsatisfied with leaving the politics at the office and wanted to take it home too, with Maria being the niece of the late former President John F. Kennedy.
The pair went on to have four children, their first child, Katherine Eunice Schwarzenegger was born on December 13, 1989, and the second, Christina Maria Aurelia Schwarzenegger was born on July 23, 1991.
The husband and wife went on to have two sons, Patrick Arnold, on September 18, 1993, and Christopher Sargent, on September 27, 1997.
But it wasn’t all happily ever after as in 2011, it was revealed that Arnold had fathered another child, Joseph Baena.
However, this was with a household employee, Mildred Patricia “Patty” Baena, 14 years prior.
Maria and Arnold separated soon after the revelation became public knowledge.
Following footsteps
His most known descendant is son Patrick who has followed in his father’s acting footsteps and has starred in a plethora of Hollywood films.
The star has featured in movies such as Midnight Sun, Grown Ups 2, Echo Boomers, Moxie even cameoed in an Ariana Grande music video.
He has also had a string of famous flings such as singer Miley Cyrus and current fiancee model Abby Champion.
His other son Joseph Baena is also been taking a leaf out of his iconic father’s book but this time with bodybuilding.
The 23-year-old is often snapped in the gym working on his physique and looks a spitting image of his dad.
The two boys were pictured earlier this year on a very rare public spotting and were said to be bonding after years of family rifts.
Love life
Heather Milligan has been Arnold’s current partner since 2013, despite being the physiotherapist being twenty-eight years Arnold’s junior.
During their time together, the 46-year-old and her hunk and have travelled the world, including trips to Europe and live in a luxury pad in California.
The pair reside in a sprawling mansion in Los Angeles which boasts photo-worthy views of the canyons and the Pacific Ocean and sits on more than 2.5 acres in one of L.A.’s most exclusive gated communities.
The actor bought the modest 14,500 square-foot mansion on a hilltop in 2002 and at this time the luxurious estate was valued at $11.9 million (£8.6m) but has now risen to a value of $23 million (£16.5m).
Despite taking out a hefty chunk of the celeb’s savings, the actor’s net worth is reported to be at $400million dollars (£296million).
This should be no surprise really as according to reports he earned $20-30 million per film during the peak of his career.
