Strictly Come Dancing fans were left worried for BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker’s future on the show after spotting a vital clue in his costume.
Dan and his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova were lucky enough to make it through to the fan-favourite Halloween week – in which the dancers and celebs don elaborate costumes to perform spooky routines.
But as Dan and Nadiya both turned up in fun lobster costumes – including bright red hair spray to turn Dan’s locks scarlet – fans reckoned it could be foreshadowing something a lot darker.
Viewers couldn’t help but think of DJ Scott Mills’ routine to Disney classic song Under The Sea – in which he was dressed up as a crab.
The dance heralded the end of Scott’s career on Strictly – and fans are now thinking Dan could be the next to face elimination.
Turning to Twitter, one concerned fan wrote: “Oh dear. Dan is dressed as some sort of crab. He obviously hasn’t watched Scott Mills!”
Someone else posted: “WTF have they done to poor old Dan Walker?! Didn’t they learn anything from when they tried a similar look with Scott Mills?”
While a third viewer tweeted: “Oh no, poor Dan is a lobster. I fear this won’t end well.”
“Well, we know what happened the last time someone was a lobster!” another chimed in.
Dan, however, looked at ease as he rocked a set of huge lobster claws and a glittery waistcoat, plus a pair of lobster eyes on a headband.
The look, which featured long red sleeves and bright scarlet locks, looked a far cry from his usual BBC Breakfast suit.
Later in the show, the pair performed a jive to The B-52’s hit track Rock Lobster.
And when it came time for the judges to comment, Craig Revel Horwood couldn’t resist referencing the costume throwback, as host Tess Daly asked: “Have you ever judged two lobsters before?”
“No, but I’ve judged one,” he replied dryly. “It was a little bit like watching a horror film – you sort of want to close your eyes through it, but you can’t wait to see what happens next.”
And later, Nadiya admitted dancing as a lobster was “the highlight” of her career so far.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One at 7.15pm tomorrow.
