Richard Madeley has confirmed it would be his last appearance on Good Morning Britain for a while.
The 65-year-old announced he would not be returning until after Christmas as he denies rumours he’ll be taking over from Piers Morgan permanently.
Susanna Reid and Richard were signing off from Wednesday’s show when Richard landed the bombshell comment that he wouldn’t at the helm for some time.
Speaking to his co-star he explained that he would be venturing off to sample food on a mysterious trip – believed to be for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
He said: “Now then, I’ve got places to go and people to see and things to eat.
“Interesting things to eat.”
“Have you?” asked a smirking Susanna.
“So I’ll be back very soon after Christmas. So it’s my last show for a while. Yes.
Joking, Susanna asked: “How do we say goodbye in Welsh?”
“I was going to ask you that,” chirped the ITV star.
Yesterday, Richard was forced to deny claims that he’d permanently replaced ex-anchorman Piers Morgan on GMB.
It had been reported that the TV veteran had landed the role alongside Susanna Reid and would receive an estimated £300,000-a-year fee for the presenting deal on the ITV programme.
However, representatives for the host have since shot down speculation.
According to The Sun, the former This Morning host was about to fulfil a permanent position after he’d appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
The publication explained that negotiations were underway with trying to work out what days of the week he’d work.
A source told the same publication: “Richard has always maintained he would never do GMB full-time, as he loves his life as it is.
“But as the weeks have gone by, and he’s proven a constant hit with viewers, he’s really got into his stride and has been enjoying it more and more.
“He polls really well with fans and ratings have steadily been on the rise again over the past six months.
“After a couple of meetings with ITV bosses, he was offered a staff contract.
“And after consulting with his family, especially wife Judy, he decided ‘sod it’ — and to go for it.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
