I'm A Celeb 'secret codes' spotted by fans – from Giovanna Fletcher to Rebekah Vardy

After many stars before them created secret signals to their families, this year I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! campmates have been warned that secret signals to home are classed as breaking the rules.

Over the years countless stars have made secret signals towards cameras as they knew they were being filmed.

Even though campmates aren’t jetting off to the other side of the world to Australia again this year, the series is returning to Wales and the celebs will be away from home for around three weeks – if they last that long!

The celebs are banned from communication with their families during their stay in Gwrych Castle – but that hasn’t stopped stars in the past.

As the series returns to ITV, Daily Star has looked into the secret codes from celebs in the past.

Shane Richie

Former EastEnders actor Shane Richie made hand signals to let his five children know he was thinking of them last year.

The star spread his two middle fingers over his eye to signal his family, his wife confessed.

At the time, wife Christie Goddard shared the details of the true meaning behind the signal, writing on Twitter: “Shane’s special signal to the children, telling them he loves them. #love #daddy #husband #trials #hecanbequitefunnysometimes.”

Giovanna Fletcher

Last year’s Queen of the Castle Giovanna Fletcher sent messages to her family by holding her thumb to her nose and wiggling her fingers to send a special signal to her children, Buzz, six, Buddy, four and Max, two.

Her husband, McFly singer Tom Fletcher revealed the secret on This Morning.

He said: “When she did that on her nose that’s her little signal for the kids.”

Tom’s bandmate pointed out at the time that this was against the rules.

Dougie Poynter won I’m A Celeb in 2011 and told Tom: “Oh you get in trouble for that!”

Horrified Tom realised he might have dropped his wife in it, as he said: “Do you? Oh no.”

Ruthie Henshall

Last years contestant Ruthie revealed she wasn’t ‘smart’ enough to think of a signal before the show

Musical theatre actress Ruthie Henshall let slip before she entered the jungle that while she hadn’t made a plan to send signals to her loved ones, there was an inside family matter that meant she could sneak it in.

She pointed to a show ritual that she takes part in, hinting that she may use that to reveal to her family that she is thinking of them back home.

Ruthie said: “To amuse ourselves in a matinée we might try and get in as many Disney titles as we can!”

It seems she took the experience into I’m A Celeb with her in order to share love to her family.

In previous years, Linda Robson has admitted she communicated with her kids by shouting “cuckoo.”

Appearing in the 2012 series, Linda confessed: “I had a code for the kids so they knew I’d be alright.”

In 2016, Homes Under The Hammer star Martin Roberts was also accused of speaking with his family via hand signals.

Fans pointed out the star was making odd hand gestures during the Bushrucker trial results as he knew he was on TV.
