Craig Revel Horwood told Good Morning Britain hosts Charlotte Hawkins and Ben Shephard that the public could now vote for TV presenter AJ Odudu to win Strictly Come Dancing after she sustained an injury.
AJ appeared on Rylan Clark Neal’s spin-off show It Takes Two and couldn’t manage to fight back the tears as she explained she could no longer stand on her left foot.
The TV presenter had no idea when the injury happened but did reveal that it was joint related and that crutches were needed to help her walk at the moment.
Weighing in on the situation, Craig appeared on the ITV breakfast programme to discuss AJ’s situation.
While the judge of the glitzy BBC show couldn’t determine if AJ would make it to Saturday’s final, he did wonder if her injury could go in her favour with sympathy voters.
Host Charlotte Hawkins kicked of the discussion, asking Craig if judges would “factor her injury into their scoring”.
Craig responded: “Yes of course, i mean the point about the judging on the final is that the judges actually don’t have any power at all and it’s up to the audience alone to decide.”
“Yes our scores are representative but they’re not taken into account”
He added: “So I think AJ could win the hearts and minds of the nation and sail through, you know to the glitterball trophy, you just don’t know what’s going to happen.”
Ben chirped in: “Fingers crossed she makes it and she can attend.”
AJ is due to appear in Saturday’s final of Strictly come dancing with professional dancer Kai Widdrington.
The pair have had an astonishing competition together and have topped the leaderboard with their energetic and fast paced routines.
An injury at this stage would have been devastating for the pair who face stiff opposition against Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice and John Whaite and Johannes Radebe.
Speaking on the Strictly spin-off, AJ said: “Oh I’m upset because I’ve suffered an injury. I don’t know when it happened but essentially I got issues with my joint.
“I’ve suffered a traumatic injury to my ligaments, there’s a lot of inflammation and I can’t pinpoint when it happened during training. In fact, I felt really positive after training.
“But the pain came so suddenly that I projectile vomited and I can’t stand up on my right foot and I can’t stand up without crutches and I’m really upset, I’m sorry,” she choked on her tears.
She continued: “We were so excited on Monday, we’ve got three amazing dances that we really want to perform. I know I’m getting upset but I am genuinely remaining hopeful.
“I’m surrounded by a really great medical team and of course I’ve got kai is really holding me together physically and emotionally.”
The Strictly Come Dancing final airs this weekend Saturday 18 December on BBC
