BBC star Gethin Jones forced to cancel operation after catching Covid before Christmas

Gethin Jones has revealed that he’s tested positive for Coronavirus.

The presenter, 43, has been absent from BBC One’s Morning Live this week, replaced by Rav Wilding and some guest hosts, including Strictly stars AJ Odudu and Sara Davies.

Appearing via a video link during Tuesday’s Morning Live, Gethin gave an update on his health and how its scuppered his family’s festive plans.

“Like so many people all over the country at the moment for Christmas my plans changed over night,” he told hosts Rav and Sara.

“As you say, I was supposed to get ankle operation today, hence why I’m not with you on Morning Live, and then I had a positive PCR over the weekend which meant the operation was cancelled.

Gethin Jones was philosophical about the news that he has Coronavirus

“Then I had to make that really horrible phone call to mum and dad who come to me for Christmas day and I was just saying to them it’s not a cancellation, we’re going to postpone it but we will get it done at some point, it’s just the way it is.

“Obviously they were massively disappointed, I was looking forward to making them a steak I had loads of advice and tips about over the last couple of weeks.’

“It is what is it, what can you do about it,” he mused.

Gethin added that he only had a few mild symptoms and “was in the queue to get the booster.”

Gethin isn’t the first Morning Live presenter to take a step back from the show this year due to health issues.

His co-presenter Kym Marsh was absent from July to October following her father Dave’s devastating prostate cancer diagnosis.

Gethin and Kym Marsh are the regular presenters

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Dave, 76, had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

In June, he sadly revealed that the cancerous cells had spread to his spine, ribs, pelvis and left leg.

While Kym was away from Morning Live her spot was taken by Strictly star Janette Manrara, who helped Gethin run the show.

Morning Live airs weekdays at 9.30am on BBC One
