John Whaite pulls out of Strictly Come Dancing tour after positive Covid-19 test

Strictly Come Dancing finalist John Whaite has been forced to drop out of Sunday night’s (6 February) tour performance of the live ballroom competition.

The 32-year-old confirmed that he had tested positive for Covid-19 after he took a lateral flow test over the weekend, despite feeling “fine” in himself.

Now, the Great British Bake Off winner – who was paired with Johannes Radebe on the show – remains in isolation while he waits for the results of his PCR test to tell him whether he will be able to continue with the tour.

He explained his situation to his adoring fans in a video which he posted to his Instagram Story on Sunday morning as he lay in bed.

The TV chef shared the devastating news with his 309,000 followers as he enjoyed some rest and relaxation inside his Glasgow hotel.

He admitted: “I’ve got a little bit of bad news I’m afraid. A lateral flow this morning has come back positive so I now have to sit here in this glamorous captivity – lovely bedhead – until a result of a PCR comes back.

“I’m hoping it comes back negative because I feel fine. I’m triple jabbed, I had coronavirus in the summer so I’m hoping it’s just a false positive.

“But that does mean that I won’t be able to perform today or tonight in Glasgow so I am very, very, very, very sorry if anyone was hoping to see me shake my thing on the dance floor today because I just won’t be there shaking it, I’ll be in my hotel room – probably still staking it.”

He joked: “That isn’t something I wish the world could see because it isn’t pretty darling. When you’re not in sparkles in sequins in it, it ain’t pretty. The real me in it, ugh, vile.

“But anyway, I’m sorry I can’t be there. I hope you enjoy the show nonetheless and good luck to all my friends who are in the show today. I’m sorry I’m letting you all down.”

The Strictly Come Dancing Live tour kicked off in January this year and stars some of the popular stars across the last two series’ including the likes of Tilly Ramsay, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Maisie Smith and Max George.

John and Johannes made TV history during their time on the BBC One dance competition as they became the first same-sex male celebrity couple to take part in the show and reach the grand final.

But the dashing pair were pipped to the post by EastEnders actress Rose and her partner Giovanni Pernice who lifted the glamorous glitterball trophy.
