Daniel Radcliffe completely unrecognisable with perm and moustache for 'Weird Al' gig

British actor Daniel Radcliffe has undergone an image overhaul as he transformed his look to take on the role of “Weird Al” Yankovic.

The Harry Potter star looked unrecognisable while on set as he embodied the American pop culture icon in the upcoming Roku Original biopic Weird: The Weird Al Yankovic Story.

In images which have emerged from the set of the production, Daniel, 32, could be seen talking and laughing with the parody singer while sporting a brown curly wig.

Wearing black trousers and a bold blue patterned shirt, the actor also made sure he included a moustache to his look as well as a large pair of glasses and a dazzling perm.

Daniel and Al were spotted laughing together as the star got tips from the legend himself as the matching duo discussed the upcoming production.

The look Daniel was sporting dates back many years as a nod to the character – and he certainly matched everything right down the famous specs.

With the hair, moustache and glasses all paired with the blue shirt, Daniel definitely managed to get into his new character.

Filming for the new movie took place earlier this month in Los Angeles, and is being co-produced by Tango and Funny or Die.

During Monday’s shoot, Al kept a watchful eye on Daniel from the sidelines but the stars could be seen conversing regularly when cameras stopped rolling.

The film, which will be available exclusively on The Roku Channel, will provide viewers with insight into the musician who made his name with popular songs and entertaining parodies.

In January, 62-year-old Weird Al joked that his new biopic has been in the works for quite a long time. He also expressed that he was pleased that Daniel was playing him in the film.

He explained: “When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork.

“I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule. And I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film.

He added: “I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

Weird Al has several accolades under his belt having won five Grammy awards and has been crowned as the biggest-selling comedy recording artist of all time.

His 2014 single Mandatory Fun was the first comical album in history to debut at number one on the US Billboard Top 200 chart.

Discussing the new flick in more detail, Colin Davis, Roku’s Head of Original Scripted Programming said: “There clearly aren’t enough biopic movies about famous musicians and we were excited to shine a light on the incredibly true, unexaggerated story of Weird Al.

“This is sincerely the ultimate combination of talent, creativity, and friends, coming together to make something genuinely funny and we could not be prouder to call this film a Roku Original.”
