RuPaul's Drag Race UK's Blu Hydrangea and Baga Chipz want to compete in Eurovision

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK stars Baga Chipz and Blu Hydrangea have revealed that they and fellow Frock Destroyers star Divina De Campo would love to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The drag artists have recently released a new documentary about the group, who formed on series one of BBC Three programme RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, called Frockumentary.

The show airs weekly on WOW Presents Plus and follows the group as they record, release, and perform their debut album, Frock4Life, during a global pandemic – and the highs and lows that Frock Destroyers faced during the process.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Baga and Blu have now said that after the chart topping success documented in the Frockumentary, they want to take Frock Destroyers to another global stage – Eurovision.

“I would love to be on Eurovision,” said Blu.

“I’m going to put it out there. Why not? Anyone who is looking at this or reading. We represent Britain perfectly, so why not just put us on,” with Baga adding: “Put us on already!”

The Frock Destroyers have reached new levels of global fame since forming on series one of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK – including their top 10 hit Break Up, Bye Bye, album Frock 4 Life and an American tour in May.

Reflecting on the success of Break Up, Bye Bye, Blu said: “I knew it was going to be so iconic. I didn’t think it would blow up quite so much, but I knew that something special had happened – especially our bonds that we made in that moment. It was fabulous.”

Baga said: “We were all friends throughout the show, but the very second we did that challenge, I was like, oh I’ve now got two best mates.”

Those bonds are explored in the new Frockumentary, which shows the group at their highs and lows as they record their album and perform to thousands of fans on their first tour, with Blu saying the group have grown even closer through the whole experience.

“I think when you’re on a season of Drag Race with the girls, you instantly have a connection and form a bond, because you’re going through this really intense situation that is life changing with these other drag artists that want to do the exact same thing,” said Blu.

“No one else knows what that is like, except for these nine other people around you. You’re bonded from that.

“Getting to work with Baga and Divina and getting to know them more has just been incredible. I honestly consider them some of my best friends in the whole world.”

Baga added: “We all get on really well. We’re like sisters.”

Fans will see The Frock Destroyers work with some of the long-time RuPaul’s Drag Race collaborators including Leland, Freddy Scott and Gabe Lopez as viewers get a sneak peek behind the World Of Wonder curtain, with Blu saying: “Even after we recorded, they still kept in touch with us and said ‘we enjoy working with you girls.’ They just wanted to make us into superstars and that was really nice y’know.”

With songs including Her Majesty, Baga also explained that each song shows the individual personalities of each band member, adding: “No one wanted to like outshine anyone. When we did the Frock Destroyers, each and every one has 33% of them. We always let everyone shine.

“I’ll be talking about Daddy’s Sauce and my chips, Blu will talk about Ireland and then Divina and her red frock.”

The documentary also explores the obstacles that the group faced when recording their debut album Frock 4 Life, including the affect that the pandemic had on the world and on the Drag scene, with Blu saying: “It’s basically the three of us in the middle of a global pandemic, trying to make something to shine a little brightness. At least it was for us.

“We have this thing to be creative. We felt like we were doing something in a time when we couldn’t do very much, because our industry was so stunted by the pandemic.”

They also added that the Frockumentary captures the life changing impact that the group has had not only on their own lives, but on the lives of their fans too.

Baga said: “It’s basically three best mates taking on the world. We go all around the country, perform in front of a hundred thousand people live and we have a ball.

“There’s nothing better than working with your mates. We also stayed very grounded and fabulous,” adding: “I get so many messages every day, saying ‘you’ve helped me’. They say how much we’ve helped them and made them laugh in hard times.

“If you would have told me a few years ago that we’d have top 10 hits and stuff, I would have been like, what?”

“Getting up on that stage and performing the songs feels so empowering and incredible,” said Blu.

“To hear that has then somehow affected someone, is amazing. You get some really positive messages and it’s hard to believe sometimes that something we’re doing, which is just normal to us in our job, is eye opening to someone else.

“That’s the important thing – that just keep being one hundred percent authentic to ourselves.”

Blu added: “The people who follow and support all three of us individually have all come together and merged. They have supported us all together, which is amazing.

“I know that I have some amazing followers, fans and friends that love what I do, but it’s nice to be able to share that with my two best friends as well. They’re so good to us.

“I think Break Up, Bye Bye has something like 6million or 7m streams. People love it and love us. It’s crazy.”

Baga also added that in the Frockumentary “there’s going to be loads of giggles”.

“We do all the Drag Fests and Drag Cons, and you just see all the fans. It’s been mad. It’s a phenomenon. People are outside shouting Frock Destroyers, Frock Destroyers! You feel like a rock star.”

Blu added: “We love the Frock Destroyers and Break Up, Bye Bye. We love the people who listen to it.

“I think that is the thing you’ll find from the Frockumentary – we’re all genuinely passionate about it and we love each other too.”

Frockumentary airs weekly every Tuesday exclusively on WOW Presents Plus.
