Britain’s Got Talent branded 'fix' as fans spot clue proving audition was ‘fake’

Britain’s Got Talent is facing another “fix” row with viewers after they spotted what they believe is a secret clue that makes an audition appear to be staged.

ITV viewers began quickly saying that dad Nick Edwards’ audition was “contrived”, as he was supposed to be secretly entered into the competition by his two young daughters.

The judging panel saw his two adorable girls, Savannah and Cali, aged three and four, take the stage with their nan, leaving singer Nick Edwards, who was sitting with his wife, stunned.

Nick could be heard revealing he thought he was just there to just be part of the audience, however, eagle-eyed fans soon spotted that he already had a microphone set up and attached to his shirt.

After watching his two daughters walk on stage with his mum, Nick said: “You’re joking. That’s my mum, you’re joking.”

The loving grandmother then told the BGT audience: “Well, Nick doesn’t know anything about it and we’re surprising him because we want him to come and sing because he sings a lovely song for the girls.”

However, some social media users became sceptical of the moment and started questioning the authenticity of the show due to the already attached microphone.

Fans of the show stormed to Twitter to air their thoughts on the matter.

One user wrote: “Nearly shed a tear until I remembered how contrived this whole thing was. I won’t let this show fool me.”

Another added: “When he was sat in the audience, did he not wonder where his mum and kids were? He said they’d come on a day out together? What a joke.”

While a third penned: “Not staged, apparently. But why did he have a microphone already attached when surprised in the audience? Also luckily had his guitar with him. Make it make sense.”

ITV has since categorically denied that the audition was staged following the claims.

A BGT spokesperson said: “We loved welcoming back our BGT viewers back last night after a year away.

“To report or allude to anything being staged or contrived regarding Nick’s audition would be false and incorrect.

“He was totally unsuspecting. We did this so we could mic him up without him suspecting a thing.”

Britain’s Got Talent continues this Sunday at 19.35pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
