Laura Hamilton is well known for being the face of Channel 4’s A Place In The Sun where she helps Brits buy home abroad.
When she’s not fronting the popular TV show she lives a very different life as a business owner and mum.
Laura had enjoyed a stable family life for many years but in January she split with her husband of ten years Alex Goward, who she shares two children Rocco and Tahlia.
During their time together set up two businesses – a café and a local village post office, which enabled them to give back to their local community..
Daily Star Online takes a look at the presenter’s split and happy family life.
Shock split
Laura and Alex enjoyed a beautiful wedding in Surrey and Laura walked down the aisle to Ice Dance from the film Edward Scissorhands.
Speaking to Hello at the time, Laura said: “Alex and I both love film scores. I didn’t want something traditional; it didn’t feel right. When I heard Ice Dance it sounded magical, then when I found out the name, it was so appropriate.”
But in January this year Laura told how she and Alex, a broker, had separated after being together for 13 years.
Announcing their split on social media Laura wrote: “This isn’t something I ever thought I’d be saying but, after 13 years of being together Alex and I have separated.
“Our children are and always will be our number one priority and we would respect privacy for our family at this time. Laura.”
Following the split, Laura revealed she would be moving out of the Purley home the couple shared together.
In another social media post, the presenter said: “I wish I could say I look like this photo right now but I don’t because, since the start of the new year we have been packing up our home ready to move…
“Today we close the door and say goodbye to a home that we have loved and enjoyed for the last 9 years – the longest I have lived anywhere in my entire adult life!
“It was a home that we transformed (as you can see in the photos), but MORE importantly it was a home where we created some incredible memories that we will cherish forever.”
In an interview with in Hello Magazine February, she admitted “there have been times I have been so overwhelmed with sadness.”
Laura also confessed it felt weird being single again since the age of 15. She said: “It was a decision we both came to.
“We have an enormous amount of respect for each other, but we are now on different paths.
“At the point it was announced, we’d already overcome a lot of difficult times.
“But I am lucky that we have the relationship and respect for each other that we have, and our children’s happiness will always be our priority.”
Business empire
The couple invested in several businesses during their time together, including splashing out on The Lord Roberts on The Green cafe in Purley, just on the outskirts of Croydon.
The café was founded and renovated by Laura and Alex Goward in 2017.
Laura’s hosted her fellow A Place in The Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas at her cafe in February, for filming for a new secret project she is working on for Channel 4.
Laura later shared a sweet behind the scenes photo, captioned: “So lovely to see this beautiful lady @missscardoug this morning who is filming an exciting new series for @channel4 and I was able to provide the location @lordrobertsonthegreen.”
Scarlette also posted about the filming, saying: “The brilliant @laurahamiltontv was kind enough to let us film at @lordrobertsonthegreen for my new show yesterday! It’s a beautiful cafe in Purley with extremely tasty pastries!! 3 guesses as to what made us [laugh].”
The menu at the café includes breakfast brioche baps and homemade treats such as Lizzie’s Kit Kat Rocky Road, Lemon & Blueberry cake, and their “legendary” Chocolate biscuit cake.
The couple also forked out on their local village post office in 2016, with the hopes of giving back to the local community but the pair were forced to close up shop in 2018 after a row with the local council over planning permission.
The pair transformed the historic building into a post office branch, complete with a deli and café.
After opening, the unique business attracted positive attention with fans of the popular show even travelling up to 100 miles to visit Laura.
The pair built a ‘shed’ measuring 4m x 3m which replaced a derelict garage on the site which was twice the size.
But the shed had been opposed in the community by some residents, which led to the council declining the retrospective planning permission.
