Eurovision icon Dana supports Brooke Scullion's racy look ahead of 2022 competition

Ireland’s Eurovision Song Contest winner Dana Rosemary Scallon has shown her support for this year’s entry Brooke Scullion as some fans blasted the singer’s outfit choices.

The 1970 champion even thinks the 23-year-old’s bold fashion looks will work in her favour.

It comes after some Irish fans of the singing contest took to social media blast Brooke’s stage outfits as ‘cheap’ or ‘too revealing’.

However, Dana, Ireland’s first Eurovision winner, has recently stepped up to defend Brooke and her style, adding that a performer’s appearance can play a key part in their success.

Speaking to The Irish Sun, she said: “I like Brooke’s quirky look. If that’s what she wants to do, and the way she wants to present the song.

“That’s what the Irish people voted for. Look at Billie Eilish and the giant oversized clothes and green hair. I’m sure many a person have told Billie she needs a makeover but she’s done brilliantly with her own style”.

As it stands, the odds bookies are giving Brooke to win the contest for Ireland are coming in at 175/1 on Paddy Power.

But Dana doesn’t see this as a bad sign and even recalls how she had similar odds before winning the contest.

“Well when I won, my odds were 120/1. I can tell you my dad made an absolute killing from the poor bookies” She told The Irish Sun.

Brooke rose to fame during 2020’s season of The Voice UK when she became a finalist with American singer Meghan Trainor as her mentor.

She later went on to be entered into The Late Late Show Eurovision Special on RTÉ One, which won her the opportunity to represent Ireland on the special edition of the show in February earlier this year.

The Derry native celebrated the news on social media to her followers, with a post that read: “A dream come true! Thank you to everyone who made this happen and for your support. What an honour to represent my country @eurovision, next stop Italy! #Eurovision2022.”

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be the 66th edition of the show.

It is set to take place in Turin, Italy, following the country’s victory at the 2021 contest with the song Zitti e buoni by Måneskin.
