Where cast of Austin Powers are now – fashion line, tragic death and poker star

Groovy news baby – Austin Powers creator Mike Myers has hinted a fourth film could be on the cards 20 years after the James Bond spoof’s last outing.

As we reported yesterday, when asked about slipping on his spy specs once more, the 58-year-old teased: “I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project, should it exist or not exist.”

The first film, International Man of Mystery, followed the flamboyant secret agent after he’s woken from cryogenic freezing to save the world from his nemesis Dr Evil (also played by Myers).

Here, Kim Carr finds out what happened to the movie’s cast…

After seemingly ending the series with third movie Austin Powers in Goldmember in 2002, Mike moved on to another successful franchise, voicing the animated ogre Shrek.

He then starred in The Cat in the Hat based on the Dr Seuss book.

His home country gave Mike the seal of approval when he was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada and his face put on a line of stamps in 2017.

After an eight-year hiatus from acting he returned in 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody and Terminal.

Back on screens in Netflix secret society series The Pentaverate this week, Mike has been married twice and is a dad of three.

Elizabeth Hurley

Since playing Austin’s love interest Vanessa Kensington, Liz has appeared in a string of unmemorable movies including Rowing with the Wind and Mad Dogs and Englishmen.

Her love life has grabbed more headlines than her acting career, including relationships with Hugh Grant, late billionaire Steve Bing (father of her 20-year-old model son Damian) and the late cricketer Shane Warne.

But then in 2015, Liz found screen success again, playing the fictional Queen Helena in The Royals.

She’s got her own beachwear line and her Instagram bikini pics are as popular as ever, with the 56-year-old not shy at showing off her stunning model bod.

Verne Troyer

Verne was in hot demand after playing Mini-Me in Austin Powers, and roles in Men in Black, How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone kept the 2ft 8ins star on the big screen.

Fame brought him success with the ladies and in 2008 a sex tape was leaked boosting his stock to land a slot on the 2009 series of Celebrity Big Brother.

But despite his chirpy on-screen demeanour Verne had been in and out of rehab for alcohol abuse and died in 2018, aged 49, with the cause of death recorded as suicide by alcohol poisoning.

Seth Green

Expanding his talents beyond Dr Evil’s son Scott, Seth moved into voiceover work with crass cartoon Family Guy’s Chris Griffin proving a lucrative gig.

He created his own stop-motion sketch show Robot Chicken, cameoed as Howard the Duck in Marvel series Guardians of the Galaxy, voiced King Kong in The Lego Batman movie and saw archive footage of Scott used in last year’s Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Seth, 48, has been married to actress Clare Grant since 2010.

Mimi Rogers

After playing Mrs Kensington, the former Mrs Tom Cruise joined the film adaption of Lost in Space, starred as Michelle Williams’ mum in Dawson’s Creek and was in Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.

Other small screen stints included The X-Files, Two and a Half Men and Mad Men.

A keen poker player since her teens, Mimi, 66, is on the board of directors of the World Poker Tour.

Robert Wagner

The US actor became a big star from the 1960s onwards thanks to roles in films such as The Pink Panther and The Towering Inferno, and TV shows including Colditz and Hart to Hart.

His career got a boost when he was cast as Dr Evil’s henchman Number 2 and roles in Hustle and Two and a Half Men followed.

Now 92, he’s still working, most recently in NCIS.

Robert has been married four times – twice to actress Natalie Wood, who drowned in mysterious circumstances in 1981 aged 43 on his yacht. Fellow actor Christopher Walken was also present.

Robert has been married to Bond girl Jill St John, 81, since 1990.

Michael York

Famed for his Shakespeare work and 1970s films such as Logan’s Run and The Three Musketeers, Michael’s intelligence officer character Basil Exposition stretched across all three Austin Powers flicks.

He later played Homer Simpson’s possible father in The Simpson and starred as himself in three episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm as an investor in Larry David’s restaurant.

In 2013 he had a stem cell transplant after being diagnosed with rare disease amyloidosis, where abnormal proteins build up in tissue.

The 80-year-old married snapper Patricia McCallum in 1968 after she photographed him and they are still together today.
